Features

  • Castle: Acres of gentle Moray countryside surround the rose-coloured Brodie Castle, ancestral home of the Brodie clan for over 400 years, although their family seat has been here since the 12th century. The exact construction date of the present building is not known, although the caphouse on the south-west tower bears the date 1567, which probably records the completion of that part that had begun in 1560. Alexander Brodie of Brodie was the 12th Laird at the time.
  • Playful Garden: The Playful Garden is a family-friendly garden area and imaginative play zone, located just a short hop from the historic castle. Start your journey by following the white rabbits from the car park and get a warm welcome at the longhouse-style visitor centre. Out in the garden, come face-to-face with Scotland’s biggest rabbit sculpture, then meet the many quirky characters and the stories that connect them to this striking castle, home to the Brodie clan for 400 years.
  • Daffodils: When Ian Brodie, 24th Laird of Brodie, succeeded to the title in 1889, he inherited a perfect setting for one of his favourite plants – the daffodil. As an eminent breeder of the brilliant yellow blooms in the late 19th and early 20th century, he gained global recognition for his work.
  • Estate walks: Get out and about on the estate by taking one of our woodland walks to see red squirrels, or meander around the pond looking at the variety of wildfowl and dragonflies.
  • Ivory exhibition: Elephant ivory has fundamentally shaped societies, cultures and economies throughout human history. As a material product, it represents the commodification of one of the most iconic and loved animals on Earth. This makes ivory an extremely complicated subject, at times intensely controversial and often highly emotive.
