The Eoropie Dunes Play Park is managed by a charity called Guth Airson Iarrtasan Nis, or 'GAIN' as it's more commonly called. The charity's name means, 'A Voice for the Needs of Ness' in the native Scots Gaelic language that is still spoken extensively in rural Lewis.Set up in 1998 “to enhance play and leisure facilities and encourage environmental awareness,” GAIN strives to be a user-led voluntary organisation that offers safe and engaging outdoor play and leisure facilities that are sympathetic to its natural 'machair' and dune surroundings.

Within the park there are a various interesting habitats, such as areas of flat grass-land, sand dunes, slopes and natural streams to play in. The 4 acre site encourages children to explore, run about, make noise and it gives them freedom to play with natural materials such as water, sand, plants and stones.The park is a wild-life haven with a host of wild flowers, including orchids, forget-me-nots, marsh marigolds, and many other plant species, providing a habitat or home to a variety of birds, mammals and insects, including rabbits, bees and butterflies to name a few.
