Features

The owners of Faskally House created this model woodland in the 19th century and the house later became a school for young foresters. You can explore the rich mix of tree species along the Foresters' Trail, or take the easy access Dunmore Trail around the loch. Water lilies bloom here in summer, and there's a spectacular show of autumn colour. Watch out for wildlife here too. There are kingfishers and herons, as well as goldeneye ducks nesting in the trees.

What to see

  • Dunmore Trail: A gentle scenic trail through the majestic trees around Loch Dunmore. Firm, largely smooth gravel surface throughout, with some slightly uneven sections. Includes a number of short moderate slopes.
  • Foresters' Trail: Explore the 19th century model forest of Faskally House and follow the beautiful shore of Loch Faskally. Uneven gravel and earth surface with exposed tree roots. Several steep slopes and some flights of wooden steps. Some narrow and muddy sections.

Getting here

  • Faskally forest is just off the B8019, about 1 mile northwest of Pitlochry.
  • If heading north, there is a sign for 'Faskally' on the A9. 
  • If heading south, follow the turn-off for 'Pitlochry' then the signs for 'Faskally'.
