  • Medieval Wall Walk: As part of ongoing essential maintenance work at Lincoln Castle, there may be temporary closures affecting access to certain sections of the Medieval Wall Walk and grounds.
  • Victorian Prison: Lincoln Castle’s Victorian Prison was designed for the 'separate system', an isolating regime that kept prisoners apart from the corrupting influence of their fellow prisoners.
  • Magna Carta: Visit Lincoln Castle and see Lincoln’s Magna Carta, Charter of the Forest and a guest document in the magnificent surroundings of the David P J Ross Magna Carta Vault.
  • Investigate Learning: The Investigate Learning team have a wide range of learning experiences on offer which can be found on our website www.investigatelearning.com.
  • Guided Tour: Visitors purchasing a Castle Day Ticket with Grounds Tour or an Annual Pass holder are entitled to a free guided tour of the bailey of the castle, led by a specialist guide from the Friends of Lincoln Castle. 
  • Volunteering at Lincoln Castle: In order that we can invest the time and support all our volunteers deserve to give the most informed and warmest welcome to our visitors, we are planning to resume our volunteer applications in the new year in readiness for welcoming thousands of visitors again in April 2026.
  • Archaeology: In 2013 archaeologists made an exciting and rare discovery in the grounds of Lincoln Castle. Whilst excavating the foundations for the new lift to the Medieval Wall Walk, they found an ancient church 3m below ground.

  • Friends of Lincoln Castle Showcase Weekend: We are excited to support the Friends of Lincoln Castle this weekend as they showcase the different ways in which they volunteer and support the Castle. On 27 September-28 September.
  • Lunchtime talk: Out of place and into history: Over the centuries, Lincoln Castle has accumulated items that seem out of place. On 30 September.
  • Dog Friendly Days September: Join us for a PAWsome adventure at Lincoln Castle on selected days this year. 27 September-28 September.

  • BUS: There are good bus connections throughout Lincoln and Lincolnshire . Lincoln bus station is located in the city centre next to the train station. Bus numbers 7, 8, 17 and 18 run between the bus station and Lincoln Castle.
  • TRAIN: There are direct lines to Lincoln  from Newark, Nottingham, Sheffield, Leicester, Peterborough, Doncaster and London. Northern Rail offer special train fares to the city.
  • BICYCLE: If you travel to Lincoln Castle by bicycle  there are spaces to lock bikes in Castle Hill car park just outside the Castle’s East Gate entrance.
  • AIR: The closest airport to Lincoln Castle is East Midlands, which is approximately 50 miles away. Lincoln Castle is a 1 hour 15 minute drive from the airport. There is a taxi rank outside the airport.
  • ON FOOT: If you are walking to the castle from the south side of the city please note that there is a very steep hill on the approach to the castle, called appropriately enough Steep Hill.
  • CAR: Lincoln Castle is well signposted on brown signs on all major routes into the city.
  • Parking: There are several small car parks close to Lincoln Castle but capacity in these is very limited.
