It is part of the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site and is still powered today by sustainable hydro electric energy from the River Derwent. The site combines industrial history with modern visitor experiences in a unique riverside setting.

Visitors can explore the Textile Museum on a self-guided visit, including the Weaving Shed, Doubling Room, Victorian Workshop, and Bobbin Room, all housed inside the original cotton spinning mill. The Visitor Centre offers Fairtrade barista coffee, locally sourced cakes and scones, and a shop selling woven cloth, string made on site, historic textile items, and handmade products from local makers. Guided tours are also available for those wanting deeper insight into the mill’s history and machinery.

Self-guided Bale to Bobbin entry costs £8.50 for adults, £4.50 for under 16s, and is free for under 5s. Public guided tours are £12 for adults, £7.50 for under 16s, and free for under 5s, with event and meeting spaces available for private hire.
