Destinations

  • Portland Marina - Moonfleet's home: Left - Portland Marina, Moonfleet's new home from Easter 2018. From the shelter of Portland Harbour, Moonfleet and her guests will venture to the breathtaking Jurassic Coastline of the Isles of Portland and Purbeck. Above - Sailing along the Jurassic Coast just outside the harbour with the Isle of Purbeck in the background. Left - Being kept company by the Queen Galadriel (on the right) out in the harbour during a beautiful sunrise. Below - The Isle of Portland and Portland Harbour.
  • Portland Harbour and Forts: The Portland Breakwater Fort is a 19th-century fort, built between 1868-1875 to defend Portland Harbour. It is located on the outer breakwater of Portland Harbour in Dorset, England. A Grade II Listed building since 1978, the fort is not open to the public and remains derelict. On the opposite side of the next stretch of the breakwater is the Portland Breakwater Lighthouse.
  • Weymouth Bay, Ringstead and Osmington Mills: Weymouth Bay is a sheltered bay on the south coast of England, in Dorset. It is protected from erosion by Chesil Beach and the Isle of Portland, and includes several beaches, notably Weymouth Beach, a gently curving arc of golden sand which stretches from the resort of Weymouth. To the north of Weymouth Bay is Ringstead and Osmington Mills, both with interesting sea and cliff formations.
  • Durdle Door: Eroded by time and nature, Durdle Door is one of Dorset’s most photographed and iconic landmarks. What a place to drop anchor and stop for lunch on our 4 hour sail! Below, Moonfleet's First Mate Brian, trying to reach out and touch the door! The cliff goes straight down into the sea making the water around Durdle Door relatively deep, allowing Moonfleet to sail in close for some breathtaking views. Don't forget your camera!!!
  • Lulworth Cove: Lulworth Cove in Dorset is a stunning, scallop-shaped cove which was formed approximately 10,000 years ago by the power of water. The landscape around the cove is constantly changing - it continues to evolve behind a narrow Portland Stone entrance whilst the softer chalk exposures are eroded. The area is extremely important for its geology, with some of the finest folding strata in Europe.
  • Mupe and Worbarrow Bays: The bays expose a sequence of Cretaceous rocks from the Bindon Hill Chalk in the north through the Wealden Beds to the Purbeck Beds in the south at Mupe Rocks. Another beautiful spot to sail to and drop anchor for lunch on our 6 hour trip. We visit Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove along the way!
  • Chapman's Pool: This beautiful bay is a few miles along the coast to the east of Portland. The perfect spot for a picnic on board. With favourable wind and tide this is achievable on the 6 hour sail on Moonfleet  (please check when booking) along the Jurassic coastline to an anchorage in the heart of the bay. After lunch sit back and enjoy a relaxing post lunch sail back into Portland.
