  • Family Trail: Flax and Barley’s Mill Mission: Families can take part in our fun trail during their visit. Flax and Barley, the Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings cats, are on a mission to learn about the amazing building they live in. Can you work with a grown up to help Flax and Barley find answers to their questions? There’s a trail sheet for children aged 4-7 and one for ages 8-12. Ask for the trail when you arrive.
  • Turned Wood Café: Turned Wood Café is now closed. We’re excited for the next chapter and can’t wait to welcome our new tenants, who will be serving delicious food and drinks very soon. We’ll be sharing news soon about our new tenants and their schedule for opening.

Facilities

  • Parking: There is limited car parking available on site. Parking is time limited to 4 hours. If you feel you are going to be longer than 4 hours on the day, please register your vehicle in the shop or café for a longer stay. Parking is free. There are two electric car charging points in the main car park.
  • Food And Drink: Turned Wood Café is now closed. We’re excited for the next chapter and can’t wait to welcome our new tenants, who will be serving delicious food and drinks very soon. We’ll be sharing news soon about our new tenants and their schedule for opening.
  • Toilets: Public toilets are situated up one flight of stairs in the Café. We have two accessible toilets. One on the ground floor in the Café and one outside, next to the Stables.
  • Dogs: Dogs on leads are welcome to the shop, cafe and the wider site. Only registered assistance dogs are allowed in the exhibition and on guided tours.

Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings welcomes the Drawn Collective back to the Dye House for their fantastic Christmas market. Support local artists with different stalls available on each day.
  • Slow Food Christmas Fiesta at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings: Date: Sat 29 Nov 2025. Time: 10am - 5pm. Location: Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings. Join us at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings on Saturday 29 November from 10am - 5pm for a Slow Food Christmas Fiesta.

  • Road Access: Postcode : SY1 2SZ. Latitude : 52.71976. Longtitude : -2.74369. Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings is located just to the north of Shrewsbury town centre and easily accessible by foot, bicycle, public transport and by vehicles. There is free parking available on site.
  • Bus Access: It’s a 10 to 15-minute walk from Shrewsbury bus station.
  • Train Access: It’s a 10 to 15-minute walk from Shrewsbury train station. If you are walking to the Flaxmill Maltings from Shrewsbury train station, turn right when you leave the station building and right again to head under the railway bridge into Castle Foregate. From here continue up this road (which becomes St Michael’s Street) for 0.6 miles and the Flaxmill Maltings will be on your left.
  • Bicycle Access: The Flaxmill Maltings is well connected to the cycleway network. The Old Shrewsbury Canal path cycleway brings you out opposite our entrance. There is also access under the railway bridge from the cycleways in Greenfields Park and Herongate.
