Description

The Carriage Works Museum is a railway heritage museum located at Ingrow Bridge, Keighley, and forms part of the Museum of Rail Travel. It tells the story of how people travelled by rail from the late 19th to the mid-20th century, making it both educational and family friendly. The museum is suitable for families, railway enthusiasts, and school groups.

The museum houses one of the finest collections of restored railway carriages dating from 1876 to 1950, many of which visitors can walk through. Several carriages have appeared in films and TV shows such as The Railway Children and Swallows and Amazons. Visitors can also see volunteers restoring vintage carriages, explore railway memorabilia, and learn more through displays, a library, and friendly on-site volunteers.

Standard admission prices are £4.00 for adults, £3.50 for concessions, and £3.00 for children aged 5–16, with under 5s free. Combined Rail Story tickets are £6.00 for adults, £5.00 for concessions, and £4.00 for children. Discounted group rates are available for groups of 10 or more, with visits typically lasting around 45 minutes.

The Carriage Works Museum offers an engaging look at Britain’s railway past in an accessible and relaxed setting. Hands-on access to historic carriages makes the experience especially memorable for children. With affordable entry, free parking, and links to other railway attractions on site, it is an excellent cultural day out in West Yorkshire.
