Explore three historic warships to learn about warship construction, refit and repair and examine important objects related to the Dockyard and the wider maritime world from the collections of Royal Museums Greenwich and Imperial War Museums. Make the most of your visit. With 400 years of heritage and 80 acres to explore, a little bit of planning before you arrive can help you maximise your visit.

Command of the Oceans: Experience life during the heyday of the Age of Sail. Discover how ships, including HMS VICTORY, were designed and built; immerse yourself in the vivid Hearts of Oak walking cinema and explore four superb interactive galleries.
Hearts of Oak: Join retired Master Shipwright, John North, as he relives his role as HMS VALIANT’s Carpenter and encourages his Grandson to follow in his footsteps.
RNLI Historic lifeboat collection: The UK’s largest collection of historic lifeboats, which together have saved hundreds of lives off the coasts of the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
3 Slip - the big space: The magnificent 3 Slip: The Big Space is among the most remarkable architectural achievements now surviving at the Historic Dockyard.
No. 1 Smithery: The No. 1 Smithery serves as an exceptional exhibition space, showcasing both permanent and a regular series of temporary exhibits. It is a collaborative venture with Royal Museums Greenwich and Imperial War Museums.
HMS Gannet: A sloop of the Victorian Royal Navy, HMS GANNET was built on the River Medway at Sheerness in 1878.
HM Submarine Ocelot: Launched in 1962, HM Submarine OCELOT was the last warship built at Chatham for the Royal Navy. She was one of 57 submarines built between 1908 and 1966 and served during the Cold War in the Arctic, Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean and Baltic Seas.
HMS Cavalier: Launched in 1944, HMS CAVALIER is a CA-class destroyer. She is preserved as The National Destroyer Memorial commemorating the 11,000 lives and 142 Royal Navy Destroyers lost during the Second World War.
Historic railway: Savour the bygone age of industrial working railways when our beautiful historic locomotives run through the Dockyard.
The Ropery: Rope has been made at Chatham Dockyard for over 400 years, miles upon miles of rope that has rigged the mightiest vessels ever to take to the sea, including Nelson’s VICTORY.
Steam, Steel & Submarines: The Dockyard story through the Industrial Revolution and the two World Wars.

Parking: We have plenty of car parking spaces with no height restrictions. Motorhomes are welcome but please note that these cannot be parked overnight. There are dedicated parking bays for Blue Badge Holders and EV charging points available.
Eat & Drink: Dive into fish, chips & ships during your visit. We have two catering outlets offering a wide range of delicious meals and snacks.
Dogs allowed: Yes they are but they must be kept on a lead at all times and are not permitted in any of the Galleries, Buildings, Onboard the Historic Ships, Slips, Mess Deck Restaurant , Wagon Stop Canteen or any indoor/covered areas.
