Former home to the Shuttleworth family and now an award-winning wedding and events venue, Shuttleworth House is a mansion house designed by famed Victorian architect Henry Clutton, forming part of the Grade II registered Old Warden Park.

  • The Shuttleworth Estate: As well as looking after the Shuttleworth Collection, Swiss Garden and the Victorian mansion house, the Shuttleworth Trust also maintain, develop and care for the Shuttleworth (Old Warden) Estate.
  • Swiss Garden: Swiss Garden is a unique example of a Regency garden in the ‘Swiss Picturesque’ or ‘Alpine’ style forming part of the Grade II* registered Old Warden Park. An RHS Partner Garden, this stunning space is home to a range of quirky structures, resident peacocks and Champion trees.
  • The Shuttleworth Collection: Established by our founder, Richard Ormonde Shuttleworth and now maintained and cared for by the Shuttleworth Trust, the Shuttleworth Collection is a treasure trove of airworthy vintage aircraft from 1909-1950, as well as historical agricultural and steam exhibits, veteran cars, classic motorcycles, bicycles, vintage buses and carriages.
  • Shuttleworth Rescue & Firefighting Service: The Shuttleworth Rescue & Firefighting Service is a regulated Rescue & Firefighting Service (RFFS) responsible for providing fire, rescue, and emergency response across the Shuttleworth airfield and wider estate.

Facilities

  • Parking: We have eight marked disabled parking spaces near our Hill Lane entrance (SG18 9DT ///decorator.thus.branching) which are available on daily admission days. Further parking is available opposite hangars 3 - 6. This is a bit of a walk from our main entrance and is on gravel.
  • Food & Drinks: The Runway Café is free to access and offers a fantastic variety of locally sourced food and drink.
  • Toilets: There are accessible toilets in the following locations across the site: Visitor Centre, Runway Café, between Hangars 4 and 5 and Swiss Garden.
  • Dogs: We welcome well-behaved dogs on leads on the airfield paddocks and in the sunroom.

  • By Air: We operate our own grass runway. To fly into Shuttleworth you must PPR via the Shuttleworth (Old Warden) Aerodrome site.
  • By Rail: The closest railway stations to Shuttleworth are: Biggleswade 3 miles (+ 10 min taxi ride or 45 - 60 min walk). Bedford Station 9.5 miles (+ 20 mins taxi ride)
  • By Bike/Foot: Numerous footpaths and bridleways connect Shuttleworth to stunning walks and rides.
