Explore the museum: Join us as we explore the buildings that make up the Ulster Folk Museum. Learn why they were brought to the museum; the stories of the people connected to them; and why they are an essential part of our shared heritage.

Facilities

  • Parking: Our main visitor car park is open and free for all visitors. The rural car park is closed to the public. There is also an overflow car park located at the bottom of the hill when you first enter the site beside the security barriers. Parking is free.
  • Food & Drinks: Ballycultra Tearoom will be open during museum hours offering a selection of hot and cold food and refreshments. When you arrive, just place your order at the counter, take a seat and our staff will deliver your order to your table. 
  • Toilets: We have public toilets throughout the museum that are managed and cleaned on a regular basis.
  • Dogs: Dogs are allowed in outdoor spaces at the Ulster Folk Museum however they must be kept on a short lead at all times. And we ask that you please pick up after your dog.

  • By Car: From Belfast City Centre, take the A2 towards City Airport/Bangor/Holywood, then keep left onto the Sydenham By-Pass A2. Follow the A2 for 3.7 miles until you reach the museum on your left-hand side, just past the Culloden Hotel.
  • By Bus: From Belfast-Take the 502a or the 502b Ulsterbus from Laganside Buscentre in Belfast City Centre, towards Cultra, Ulster Folk Museum. There is no bus from Europa Buscentre anymore. Disembark at Ulster Folk Museum and from there the 10-minute walk up to the museum is signposted. Please note the walk is uphill, so if you have any accessibility requirements, please call us on 028 9042 8428 before your arrival and we'll help you.
  • By Train: If you’re travelling to us by train, you need to get on the Bangor line from Lanyon station and disembark at Cultra station. You will come across the Transport Museum first when you arrive, and it’s a 15-minute walk from there to the Folk Museum. Please note the walk is uphill; this is steep in parts.
