Curriculum
At St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School, they offer a rich, deep, broad and balanced curriculum, underpinned by the Catholic, school and British Values. Central to the curriculum is the development and acquisition of the pupils’ core skills in reading, writing and mathematics, supported by a strong emphasis on language, communication, and phonics in the Early Years. They aim to deliver an innovative English curriculum, which enables and empowers pupils’ written and oral communication and creativity and develops their confidence and love of reading. They also want to ensure that pupils become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics and can confidently apply key skills and reason mathematically. The curriculum offer supports the development of pupils creativity and cultural capital through Art and Design, Design and Technology, Music, PE and French. The history curriculum traces British history and the great civilisations of the world, but also recognises the importance that pupils understand and value their own identity and heritage, including their cultural roots, as citizens of London, the UK and as members of a global society.
Early Years Foundation Stage
The Early Years Foundation Stage is the period of education from birth to 5 years. At St Joseph’s, it starts in the Nursery class and ends in Reception. There is a strong emphasis on learning through play, both child initiated and planned play. The curriculum is delivered through a combination of whole class activities, adult led focused activities and child initiated activities.

St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School is a Catholic voluntary aided school in the trusteeship of the Diocese of Westminster. The Governors consider that the greatest pastoral benefit from the education in a Catholic school is obtained by children who come from homes where the Catholic Faith is practised. Children who attend Mass regularly with their parents and who participate in the activities of the parish will derive the fullest benefit from the complementary influences of home, school and parish.
