Features

Things to note

  • Ackworth School is fortunate to have teachers prepared to give up their time to lead trips, usually linked to the curriculum, abroad and closer to the School.
  • These trips can focus on a specific subject or may cover a range of subjects. They can bring the Victorian era to life or inspire art students, offer learning in science centres through hands on experiments or promote ongoing interest in sport.
  • Ackworth School offers a full programme of topics to its pupils. The sequence is carefully managed to allow for full participation and financial planning on the part of parents.
  • Ackworth prides itself on the wide range of sports accessible to the students in both Junior and Senior School.

Admission Details

Nursery (age 2.5+): Nursery takes pupils from the age of 2½ to 4 years old. Before a place is offered, they will invite your child to Nursery for an informal assessment to ensure they are Nursery-ready.

Coram House (age 4+): Entry at 4+ is by informal assessment during a taster session. Entry at 7+ is by interview and an assessment. This will normally involve an assessment of potential and achievement in the areas of literacy, numeracy and reasoning.

Senior School (age 11+): Entry at 11+ and 12+ is by school reference, interview (where possible) and tests. These will involve Mathematics and English assessments set by the School and a non-verbal reasoning test. Entry at 13+ and 14+ is as at 11+, though the papers will be appropriate to the age of the child.

Scholarships

Scholarships will be awarded at three points in a student’s progression through the school or on entry. The three points are at ages 11+, 13+ and 16+. The school may approach parents having judged a student worthy of consideration for assessment for scholarship. Parents are welcome to approach the school to ask for their child to be assessed for a scholarship. Ultimately the school’s decision is final. Scholarships are usually tenable until the end of Fifth form providing the holder’s academic progress and general conduct remains satisfactory and provided that the holder continues enthusiastically to fulfil the obligations associated with the scholarship. Scholarships are reviewed annually, at the end of each academic year. Sixth Form Scholarships are tenable for two years but are reviewed after the completion of the first  year. There is a separate process for application for a Sixth Form Scholarship.
