Description

Amesbury is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 2 to 13 (Gender - 2 to 13 )

The Amesbury ethos runs firmly through the school. They are a relaxed and a nurturing school, with a strong emphasis on treating every child and their learning path as individuals. They recognise the importance of a holistic approach to well-being and education, with pastoral care as equally important as academic rigour. Every child is treated as an individual and as an equal – the school has a very strong sense of mutual respect and gender equality is a particular strength. This is a school with the most excellent performing arts provision, leading practices in digital learning and preparation for senior schools, a dedicated staff room and a truly balanced approach to education – work hard, play hard.

Facilities

EARLY YEARS
Little Amesbury is a purpose built Early Years building designed to facilitate the best possible early education for your little one from pre-nursery to Reception. Early childhood is the foundation on which children build the rest of their lives. At Little Amesbury they are passionate that children are entitled to a broad, challenging, exciting and balanced creative curriculum. Relevant to their interests and needs, they strive to give outstanding provision for pupils of all abilities, so that each child can aspire to the highest level of personal achievement. They believe that every child is unique and we value the importance of offering children a wide variety of experiences both indoors and outdoors, where learning is nurtured and encouraged in a happy, safe, caring and fun environment.

PRE-PREPARATORY
Imagine being taught in an environment purpose built as a school, by possibly the greatest British architect of all time Sir Edwin Lutyens. Or as the editor of The Good Schools Guide writes ‘The main building is for Years 1 and 2, lucky devils’. Housed in the main building the pre-preparatory children are very much a part of the whole school and benefit from our excellent facilities.Within our Pre-Prep setting we have two parallel classes in Year 1, aged 5-6, and in Year 2, aged 6-7.  Pupils are taught by experienced classroom teachers and supported by classroom assistants. While the Pre-Prep Curriculum is primarily delivered by class teachers there is specialist teaching in Art, French, Music, Drama, PE and Games. In Key Stage 1, the curriculum progresses from the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and is no longer structured around the six areas of learning, although they will continue to form an integral part of your child’s development. The curriculum is taught through topics as in Reception.

PREPARATORY
Amesbury educates pupils to 13+ because the experience tells us that all things being equal it is the best age of transfer for a pupil. In those final two years parents and pupils come to see the rewards of the work that has taken place in the earlier years and realise the full value of a prep school education. These final two years at Amesbury are characterised by academic rigour and momentum. When the time comes for a pupil to leave in Year 8, GCSEs are just three years away and it is that academic rigour which we believe is at least in part responsible for their GCSE success. Reaching the top of Amesbury gives a young adolescent more time for his or her character to form and the opportunity to reflect on their values and realise their talents and ambitions. It also enables the parent to have longer to find the right fit between child and senior school.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
A whole range of thriving clubs and activities gives pupils the opportunity to further their interests or to discover completely new ones. One day it might be Judo, or Speech and Drama or a Hip Hop lesson, later in the week that same child might try something new in the ‘Write On’ club or discover a passion for Archaeology or Gardening. There are Choirs, Ensembles, Big Band, Amesbury Performance Ensemble, chess, Mandarin, photography, pottery, textiles, World Cinema and lot, lots more.In our School Aims we describe how we want to develop in every pupil the skills, aptitudes and abilities required to become emotionally resilient and autonomous learners. They want to encourage in every child a sense of commitment, to value high achievement, to be prepared to adapt and to innovate.
