Pre-Prep
Pre-Prep comprises three year groups: Reception (ages 4-5), Year 1 (ages 5-6) and Year 2 (ages 6-7). In Reception, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets high standards for the learning and development of children from birth to five years old.  We provide a safe, caring and nurturing environment allowing children to settle quickly and become competent learners. We support your child as they make the transition from EYFS into Year 1 and during Years 1 and 2 they will continue with their teachers to develop their skills in preparation for the Prep School. The Pre-Prep department has its own entrance with purpose-built seating, to allow small group activities in the conservatory. The cloakroom area with children’s individual storage boxes offers a wonderful first impression – a sea of ‘Birchfield colours’; yellow and green.  The walls are adorned with children’s work contributing to the bright and vibrant atmosphere.  The three classrooms are centred around a hub, creating a welcoming and nurturing environment .

Prep - Years 3, 4 and 5
The younger years at  Prep School comprise three year groups: Year 3 (ages 7-8), Year 4 (ages 8-9) and Year 5 (ages 9-10). Year 3 heralds the start of Prep School and things start to look and feel a little different to the children in terms of structure and expectations. Our aim is to support them to get up and running as quickly as possible with new school routines, timetables and teacher expectations. In Prep School your child works with a large and passionate team of teachers who specialise in their subject. This means your child is taught by a specialist in Maths, English, Science, French, History, Geography, RS, Art, Sport, ICT and Food Technology. Working with a specialist teacher is central to our belief that a qualified, passionate advocate of each subject is the best way to positively enhance children’s learning.

Senior Prep - Years 6,7 and 8
The senior years at Prep school comprise three year groups: Year 6 (ages 10-11), Year 7 (ages 11-12) and Year 8 (ages 12-13). In these years our pupils are exposed to a more intense schedule of learning and are expected to have a high level of organisation, time-keeping, manners, self-discipline and respect for others. Moving into Years 7 and 8, pupils will undertake our much-coveted Birchfield Award which is a two year programme of recorded achievement including community work and charity fundraising. This award helps to develop a strong social conscience, positivity, resilience and leadership skills.
