Upper School 7-11
The focus in Upper School is upon achievement and academic excellence with an emphasis on traditional values. There are designated rooms for science, music, art, design technology and information and communication technology. Keeping class sizes small (no larger than 18) ensures that they can continue to cater for individual needs and monitor each child’s progress.As a ‘girls only’ environment, they can focus all of the time, resources, attention and energy to the unique needs of each girl. They have the flexibility to customise teaching strategies, programs, and experiences to match the girls’ interests, challenges and learning styles for each subject.
Lower School 5-7
They encourage independence within a supportive and safe environment. The members of staff are well qualified and experienced. The curriculum follows the guidelines of the National Curriculum 2014, yet remains flexible to allow us to embrace the unexpected.Fun activities reflect the ethos of learning through enjoyment, enquiry and discovery. Each child is taught by his or her class teacher, with specialist teachers providing lessons in Physical Education, Music and Dance and French. The children are given a first class start to their formal education. Whilst the girls are well prepared for life in the Upper School at the age of seven, the boys leave us to attend co-educational junior schools.
Early Years Foundation Stage
In the Early Years Department, boys and girls progress through Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception. They concentrate on providing each child with the very best foundational start in a nurturing and stimulating environment.Girls and boys are accepted into our purpose-built Nursery, in the September following their third birthday. There are 24 places available in Nursery and girls and boys (maximum 5) can attend for five mornings or any number of full days. They recognise the importance of high quality Early Years Education and concentrate on the individual by providing a high staff ratio. There is an emphasis on practical activity, with excellent facilities for the children to enjoy. They believe we provide the perfect balance between learning through supported play and adult led learning.
Music
All the girls and boys are drawn into musical activities during their time at school, with specialist Music lessons from Year One upwards taken by our Director of Music. Recorder lessons form part of the curriculum from Year Two upwards with children learning musical notation. The Upper school girls have the option of taking individual music lessons on the flute, ‘cello or violin. Girls achieve success in examinations with The Associated Board of the Royal School of Music and London College of Music Examinations.
Creating and Performing Arts
They recognise that the creative and performing arts provide a unique learning experience and an excellent opportunity for many children to excel. In Lower School, class assemblies and plays provide an early opportunity to develop and improve self-confidence. They value the confidence and self-esteem that can flourish through learning to perform in an encouraging environment.
Physical Education
At Newbridge, academic excellence is not our only measure of achievement. Physical education plays an essential part in providing a healthy, rounded approach to learning and life. Specialist teaching recognises individual strengths and encourages competitive success. Activities include tennis, gymnastics, netball, rounders, athletics, swimming, hockey, and cross-country. The facilities include a netball court, tennis courts, a multi-purpose hall and a school playing field.
Extra Curricular Programme
The extra-curricular programme at Newbridge Preparatory School is designed to extend the children’s experience of the world, to give them opportunities to work and play together and to provide them with skills and interests, some of which may last their whole lives.They provide a wide range of opportunities for these activities. Clubs are run by school staff on a voluntary basis or by peripatetic teachers or coaches visiting the school.Activities include a wide range of instrumental lessons for Year Three upwards during lunch times. After-school activities vary each term but can include Football Academy, Squash Academy, Tennis Academy, Netball Squad, Chess, Coding, gymnastics, speech and drama, Environmental Friends, Craft Club, Knit & Natter, Philosphy, Book Club, Brownies and Guides.
