Teaching and Learning
Welcome to the Teaching and learning area of our website. In this section you will find information about education at the school. If you are looking for information pertaining to either the running of the school or our sixth form then please visit these areas of our site instead. In Course Information you will find information on our current course offerings from year 7 through to year 11. It also has information on our religious education, sex education, special educational needs and homework expectations.

Religious Education
All girls attend morning Assembly and Religious Studies lessons unless a specific request is made by parents for their daughter to be withdrawn. In Religious Studies lessons, the Norfolk Agreed Syllabus, which lays down the broad guidelines within which the school prepares its own scheme of work, is followed. Topics covered include: an introduction to religion (in year 7), Hindu beliefs, Jewish beliefs, Sikh beliefs, Islamic beliefs and an introduction to ethics. Starting in the Spring term of year 9, students begin the Eduqas GCSE RS Course, looking at Christianity, Buddhism and then studying various ethical and philosophical issues. Students can then choose to study A level RS in 6th form, where we use the AQA RS specification.

Sex Education
The school aims to provide a comprehensive well planned sex education programme: one that follows the guidelines for Sex Education as outlined in the DFE document 'Sex and Relationship Education Guidance, 2000'. The programme includes values, attitudes and behaviour as well as knowledge. Sex education will be provided in such a manner as to encourage pupils to have regard to moral considerations and the value of family life. What the school teaches is intended to be complementary to and supportive of the role of parents in educating their children about sexual matters.

Special Educational Needs
They consider all our pupils to have individual needs and seek through our pastoral system to give support to them so that they may all fulfil their potential. Where a pupil experiences particular difficulties, all teaching staff are alerted at the beginning of the school year, the pupil's progress is monitored carefully and a programme of support is arranged in conjunction with parents and the pupil. We also work closely with our feeder primary schools to ensure continuity of provision where difficulties have already been identified.

Sixth Form
Let Georgina and Verity, our Head and Deputy Head Girls, take you on a tour of our school. When you join the sixth form you will get top quality teaching which will help you to get the very best grades possible and as one of the top performing state schools in Dorset and Hampshire, we deliver academic success. In addition you will have a whole range of experiences and opportunities which will give you the 'edge' as you prepare for higher education and the world of work.

Things to note

Clubs and Societies
All girls are encouraged to take advantage of the many extra-curricular activities available. Some clubs and societies are run by senior pupils for the benefit of more junior members of the school, others are run by members of staff; all have staff support. There are opportunities to learn to play musical instruments and many pupils avail themselves of these. Lessons are given by visiting teachers and take place in the lunch-hour, before and after school or during school hours. The tuition is in groups and a charge is made. Full information is available from the Head of Music. Pupils are entered for the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Music
The Music Department is based in our modern and spacious Performing Arts Centre. Facilities here include two specialist music classrooms, an IT room equipped with Sibelius and Cubase software and keyboards, 5 practice rooms where peripatetic music lessons take place, two drama studios and a large theatre space which seats 200. We also have a well-equipped recording studio run by a top-spec iMac and benefit from an excellent range of musical instruments for pupils' use.
