Broomwood Hall Lower School has that incredible mix that you find in all great schools: dedicated staff; an inspiring curriculum; beautiful buildings with excellent facilities; an ethos that is rooted in the very best of the tried and tested, whilst looking firmly to the future; but above all, happy children. Added to this we have innovative and outstanding teaching, a myriad of opportunities for children to try new things, a real sense of community and outstanding pastoral care. It is a school filled with the the constant buzz of laughter and happiness that comes from children who truly enjoy coming to school. In all this, the goal is to equip children with skills for life, not just the next school. As a pre-prep school, we prepare children for the next stage of their education - whether that’s at 7+ to other schools or at 8+ within the Northwood Schools' family - either to Broomwood Hall Upper School, (girls), or Northcote Lodge, (boys).
Lower School
The Lower School curriculum has been designed to provide children with a thorough mastery of the fundamental building blocks of education, delivered in a way that is inclusive, enjoyable and, above all, harnesses a child’s natural curiosity and desire to learn. They take pride in knowing that our children look forward to coming to school. They are keen to ensure that all pupils take an active role in their learning. They believe it is crucial for them to understand how to learn effectively and gain support in developing the skills needed to become well-rounded learners. They hope to create pupils who can approach learning with a positive mindset and an ability to work through challenges.
Upper School
They follow the National Curriculum but pride ourselves on offering an unusually broad and balanced range of subjects. They support the curriculum through a wide range of additional activities. The pupils enjoy regular visits, tours and residential field trips. They also host debates, visiting speakers, poetry competitions and concerts. All girls are taught maths, English, and science, along with French, history, geography, theology, philosophy and religion, PSHE, Computing, Art, DT, music and sport. Form Year 5 onwards, girls study Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning. From Year 6 onwards girls study Latin, and in Years 7 and 8 they study the three sciences separately. Girls do a taster course of Spanish in Year 6 and can take it as an option from Year 7.
Thematic Learning
They place great emphasis on helping children to develop skills of enquiry and harness their natural curiosity to help them make connections between subjects under broad themes.
After School Clubs
From Class 1 the children may join an after-school club in such diverse areas as karate, chess, flamenco, computers, cricket, golf, ballet, dance, jewellery, art or cookery. The clubs programme changes every term, so it is as diverse and interesting as possible.Clubs run Monday-Thursday generally from 3.45-4.45. There is a charge for clubs - typically around £110 per term, but it can be more where higher costs are involved (for example external teachers or when travel is involved).
