Description

Bryony School is Independent Primary school in Medway for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

Bryony School is a non-selective independent primary school in Rainham, Kent established in 1956. They aim to provide the best possible start for every child aged 3 to 11 years old. They have a strong reputation for high academic standards within a warm and friendly environment. They keep class sizes typically around 10 to 16 children which enables all children to feel secure, happy and confident.Teachers really know and understand every single child. Equally the children themselves know everyone and follow other children’s successes, performances and sporting records as they pass through the school. Some parents are former pupils and some teachers former parents which all helps add to the strong community feel here.Children play and interact with different classes and age groups much more than they would in a larger school. This gives them a confidence and empathy which prepares them well for secondary school. They provide an equality of opportunity and experience which favours every boy and girl and allows each to reach their potential.

Facilities

Nursery
The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum shape the educational programme: communication and language; physical development; and personal, social and emotional development; literacy; mathematics; understanding the world; and expressive arts and design. The Lower Pre-school focuses each week on a letter and number together with a termly topic. Children are encouraged to bring in items from home to contribute to the collective understanding.

Pre School
Each child will initially have an ‘abc sounds’ book which goes home every day to reinforce what has been learnt at school. Once letter sounds and initial words are mastered, the child will have a reading book sent home. The contact book also goes home which includes information on the current and future topics as well as phonics, reading, spellings, numeracy etc which we encourage parents to reinforce at home. We focus on two sounds a week and one number or a shape a week. The children also visit the Library Bus to borrow books to take home.

Infants and Juniors
The infant department is a safe and happy environment for 4 to 7 year olds from Reception to Year 2. Our small class sizes and the value they place on such characteristics as kindness, thoughtfulness towards others along with good manners, enables children to make close friendships and also to develop strong, positive relationships with their teachers. This friendly and supportive environment allows them to grow in confidence, to be able to express themselves, and to be continually challenged whilst actively engaged in their learning.
