They take a rounded approach to the children’s education and work tirelessly on equipping them with core skills in reading, writing, spoken language and maths. The talented staff use their expertise and experience to extend the opportunities for the children both in the classrooms and in a wide range of extra-curricular clubs, visits and activities. The classrooms are vibrant and welcoming, full of creativity and learning, making Carlton a special place indeed for all children. They actively encourage our children to take learning beyond the classroom and use their own initiative.

Facilities

Curriculum
They believe that every child can make progress, that every child can dream, aspire and achieve beyond excellence! Therefore they ensure that teaching and learning opportunities at Carlton meet the needs of all the pupils. They ensure that our provision is appropriate and there is a challenge in place for all pupils regardless of their starting points, they ensure the children are able to progress across the primary years. They ensure that our curriculum is accessible for children with disabilities and educational needs. In class, children are challenged through deeper learning activities and by working with peers of all abilities. Teachers can extend work for the more able pupils through the use of higher-level questioning and activities that are aimed at the top level of Bloom’s taxonomy model (see image below). Additionally, pupils who are more able also tutor and help others in the class to deepen their understanding and develop their explanatory skills. The Growth Mindset approach is also embedded throughout school so that children become confident, resilient and responsible individuals.

Features

Things to note

SEND
At Carlton, they continually monitor and assess the learning and progress of all children and they make sure we follow the guidance of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice (2015). If they have concerns about your child’s learning they will talk with you as soon as possible and discuss strategies to put in place to support your children such as extra or different equipment, interventions or nurture work. Meetings are also carried out throughout the year between the SENCO and parents to ensure that children’s progress is kept up to date. A My Support Plan (MSP) or Health Care Plan may be written with you and they may ask for further advice from other professionals such as School Nursing and Educational Psychologists. These plans will be reviewed with you on a term basis at least.
