Croydon High School is an independent day school for girls located near Croydon for kids aged 3 to 18.

Facilities

  • Purpose-built campus in Selsdon, South Croydon, accommodates both the Junior and Senior Schools, sports’ centre, outdoor netball/tennis courts and astro turf and beautiful tree-lined field which converts to an athletic track in summer.
  • Bright, large classrooms are served by wide corridors and offer a superb learning environment. In the Junior School, all classrooms have been recently refurbished into learning zones with breakout areas which enables modern and personalised approach to teaching.
  • Having a large sports centre on site is a huge asset for the school. The swimming pool, dance studio, gymnasium, fitness suite and sports hall, together with our all-weather artificial pitch – overlooked by our stunning new sports pavilion – provide girls with opportunities to train and compete in excellent facilities.
  • The capacity of netball and tennis courts allows to host large fixtures and cater for Juniors and Seniors throughout the year.
  • The music and drama studios in the Junior School are used by all girls.The corridors of practice rooms over two floors in the Seniors School, combined with the recital room and dedicated music teaching rooms, provide excellent venues for rehearsals before performances in school Hall.
  • The Music Technology studio, Podcast Room and fully equipped Drama Studio open out onto ‘drama courtyard,’ used for school performances in good weather and sometimes by external groups who hire this pleasant space for special productions.
  • Recently refurbished and spacious biology, chemistry and physics laboratories offer superb spaces where the emphasis is on practical discovery.
  • Computer suite facilities are supplemented by trollies of laptops which are available for teachers to use in their own classrooms or for girls to borrow from the LRC (Learning Resource Centre).
  • Art and Design facilities boast a photography dark room, pottery kiln, textiles area and dedicated Sixth Form studio area alongside our regular art teaching rooms.
  • 3D Design Technology suite offers girls the opportunity for 3D printing, laser cutting, CAD/CAM equipment, jewellery making and silversmithing equipment, sanders, kilns and saws … amongst a plethora of other tools and technology kits.
  • Purpose built Lecture Theatre seats 126 and is the perfect venue for hosting presentations, debates and university-style lectures, in a comfortable air conditioned space.
  • Sixth Form enjoy a designated section of the Senior School in their Common Room, located next to the Learning Resource Centre, with café and dining area, independent study room, dedicated teaching rooms, conference room, careers’ room and lounge area.

Admission Details

In the Junior School, girls can join Nursery at the beginning of the term in which they will celebrate their 3rd birthday. They also have more specific information about starting in Reception (4+ entry) and Year 3 (7+ entry). Entry points to the Senior School are usually in September for Years 7, 9 and 12.

Entry at 4+: Reception marks the start of an exciting adventure at Croydon High Junior School. They have a unique approach to laying those all-important foundations that help every little girl blossom into the best version of herself. They are extremely fortunate to have the space and the facilities to be able to offer the very best environment for learning. Independent learning and play based activities are prioritised, with daily opportunities for more formal teaching in Phonics, English and Mathematics. The best way to decide if Croydon High is the right choice for your daughter is to visit. They recommend that you have a personal tour of the Junior School on a normal school day and meet Head, Sarah Raja. This will allow you to see first-hand how girls learn in unique atmosphere.

Scholarships

Academic Scholarships for Year 7 Entry: This will be awarded on the basis of performance in the Entrance test on 3 December 2022.

Academic Plus Scholarships for Year 9 Entry: This will be awarded to applicants from external schools who apply for academic scholarship and assessment in: Art & Design, Music, Drama or Sport. Roles and Responsibilities pertaining to this award and further details will be sent on application.

Music, Art & Design, Drama and Sports scholarships for Year 7: For entry in September 2023, the selection process will take place in November/December 2022. Information and entry forms for September 2024 will be available from the Admissions Registrar from Summer 2023.

Sixth Form Scholarships: There will be competitive Academic Scholarship examination on Saturday 12 November 2022, for Year 11 which is open to both internal and external candidates. Croydon High School Academic Scholars will be a small number of girls who show exceptional potential for future academic study. Art, Drama, Music, PE and (occasionally) Technology Scholarships are available for the Sixth Form.

Jacqueline du Pré Sixth Form music scholarship: Applicants should be of a good Grade VII standard but, in exceptional cases, a candidate who has achieved a distinction at Grade VI might be considered. This scholarship is open to both internal and external candidates. Auditions were held in December 2022. Information and entry forms are available from the Music Department at school.

At the end of Lower Sixth: The Jenny Park Award for girls studying English & the Arts is awarded. Scholarship Trust Awards for girls studying a science, humanity, art, modern language are also available.
