Egerton-Rothesay School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 6 to 19 (Gender - 6 to 19 )
Egerton Rothesay is a non-selective school in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, with a mainstream curriculum catering for children in years 3 – 13. They provide the necessary support to access this curriculum for pupils who need specialist input within school because of a specific educational need – such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, speech and language needs or an autistic spectrum condition. We believe that learning should be focused on the individual and should be about preparing each child for life after school not just exams. As part of this we have a Sixth Form where pupils can have additional time for qualification in a supportive environment before college or work, with a wide range of vocational and academic courses.ERS delivers a broad education and we provide pupils with a range of individually tailored strategies to support their learning needs and development. This means a unique and relevant education for each student. Our education promotes life skills and social skills to help make the next transition – whether to our Sixth Form or to college – and to prepare pupils for everyday life.
Learning
All pupils follow a mainstream curriculum whenever possible and as appropriate. In the primary years pupils have dedicated periods each morning for English and Mathematics and then take various topic-based subjects to enable them to plan and investigate a range of different subjects. In the senior school the core subjects are taken up to Y9 and from Y10 pupils choose examination option subjects alongside the core.Pupils can choose from a range of nationally recognised examinations including GCSE, BTEC, DiDA, Foundation courses or Entry Level. The introduction of a variety of qualifications takes into account pupils’ learning styles. Opportunity to succeed in Year 11 is maximised by deciding on the most appropriate qualification and whether assessment by a final examination or individual units is best for the individual.
SEN mean at ERS
As all pupils at ERS have some type of SEN (Special Educational Need) this is an important question for both existing and potential parents. The simple answer to the question is that SEN means having a difficulty or disability that affects the ability to learn. Some pupils have one or more specific learning difficulties, whilst others have a more complex profile of needs that could include a learning difficulty or medical condition. However, the impact of any of these difficulties can differ between individual pupils and, as a result, each child needs an individual programme of strategies, interventions and support to enable them to make the best possible progress.
