Early Years
They have an award winning Early Years Unit at Emmanuel School, providing exceptional small group education in a very friendly environment where children are nurtured and educated. The experienced nursery staff provide a wonderful environment for young children to learn more about themselves and the world around them. The nursery is open from 9am-3pm and supports the entitlement to free 15 hours early years provision for 3 and 4 year olds. Reception is open during normal school hours and school fees apply.
Reception
The Reception class is a lively and enjoyable setting for our 4-5 years olds. The class spend time learning with their dedicated teacher as well as spending time with Emmanuel Nursery during some parts of the week. The classroom has various provision areas for the children to explore the different aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Key Stage 1
Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) is taught as a mixed age class. The children benefit from a wide variety of activities provided by two qualified and experienced teachers, Mrs Edwards and Mrs Lee.
Key Stage 2
The Key Stage 2 is split into two mixed age classes, Year 3&4 and Year 5&6. A full timetable, covering the National Curriculum is delivered by qualified and experienced teachers; Mrs Stokes and Mrs Cernik for Year 3&4 and Mrs S Snowdon and Mr Snowdon for Year 5&6.
DANCE
They have an after school dance club for any children from year 2 up. Dance club runs every week for an hour and is a great source of fun and enjoyment. The club is run by Mrs Ringer who is a qualified dance teacher specialising in contemporary dance.Children are encouraged to perform choreographed pieces at end of term awards ceremonies and at Christmas and Easter shows.
SPORT
Keeping healthy is important and at Emmanuel we like the children to develop skills which they can transfer to a variety of sports. In the Autumn we develop ball skills (passing, marking, scoring etc.) through football, rugby, netball and hockey. The children sometimes also go to the Queens Leisure centre for a term and have swimming lessons, as well as to Derby City Gym where the children have trampoline lessons and gymnastics.
Selection Criteria: Selective
Applications for September entry should be submitted by the end of February of that year. Any applications submitted after that date will automatically go on a waiting list, and offers will be made in the event of vacancies occurring unexpectedly after that meeting. Applications for entry at other times will be considered if vacancies exist.
