Farlington School  is an independent day and boarding school  for kids aged 4 to 18.

The Sixth Form at Farlington is housed in its own purpose-built Sixth Form Centre, where students enjoy excellent facilities; catch up with some research in the library, finish a project in the seminar rooms, relax with friends in the common room or prepare a snack in the kitchen.

Things to note

  • In the Lower School, subject specialists teach music, modern languages and sport to the pupils. The students also enjoy weekly swimming lessons.
  • Sport is a fundamental part of life at Farlington and physical activity is crucial for mental wellbeing. Most sports are available as part of the curriculum, as competitive teams and squads, and also as a fun extra-curricular activity.
  • Farlington’s thriving Drama Department has an excellent reputation, with 100% of A-Level Drama students achieving grade A over the past four years, and a 100% pass rate in Year 9 for the Bronze Arts Award.
  • Music at Farlington is a vibrant and energetic department offering a host of extra-curricular activities in addition to enriching the academic curriculum. 
  • Dance is taught within the P.E. curriculum, and ballet is available as an extra-curricular activity. 
  • Throughout their time at Farlington, pupils will be offered numerous opportunities to travel far and wide, from local trips for youngest Lower School students, to expeditions around the world for older students.

Admission Details

Lower School (Reception To Year 4): Following receipt of a report from your child's current nursery or presechool (where applicable), they will invite your child to an informal assessment with Mrs Ros Clayson, Head of Lower School. Following receipt of a Head's report from your child's current school, they will invite your child to a Taster Day, which will include an informal assessment.

Middle School (Year 5 To Year 8): Entrance assessment for the Middle School takes the form of CAT4 testing, ideally by the end of the Autumn Term preceding entry. If your child has already completed a CAT4 test (or equivalent) at their current school, results will be requested and there will be no need to redo the test. If your son/daughter is at school overseas they will sit the papers in their own school, or if they have registered for a place through an agency, they can sit the papers in their offices. Students who are currently overseas will also be required to have an interview via video link, usually through Skype.

Senior School (Year 9 To Year 11): Following receipt of a satisfactory Head's report, entrance assessment for the Senior School takes the form of CAT4 testing, ideally by the end of the Autumn Term preceding entry. If your child has already completed CAT4 tests at their current school, results will be requested and there will be no need to redo these tests. If your son/daughter is at school overseas they will sit papers in core subjects in their own school, or if they have registered for a place through an agency, they can sit these papers in their offices. Students who are currently overseas will also be required to have an interview via video link, usually through Skype.

Sixth Form (Years 12 And 13): Sixth Form entry requirements are typically for students to achiecve a minimum of 45 points at GCSE, including grades 4 or above in English and Maths. Subject to a satisfactory report from their current school, your child will then be invited to meet with Mrs Penny Hart, Head of Senior School, for a Pathway Planning Meeting (PPM) to discuss their personal Sixth Form journey.

Scholarships

Farlington School offers Scholarships in the fields of Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sport. These Scholarships offer talented students the opportunity to flourish, and to contribute to and benefit from Farlington’s ethos and life at the school. Scholarships are applied for entry at Year 7 (11+), Year 9 (13+) and Year 12 (16+). All Scholarships are offered at up to 10% fee remission.
