Description

New Barn School is a wonderful school caters for autistic pupils aged 7-19 years. They provide exceptional educational outcomes using the National Curriculum to plan personalised and flexible approaches to learning. 

Facilities

  • New Barn School is a purpose-built special school with excellent facilities. The school includes a primary and secondary block, a vocational block and a sports hall, alongside a multi-use games area. The secondary school building has six classrooms, three recently added temporary classrooms, a science lab, ICT suite, food technology kitchen, lunch hall, library and therapy spaces.
  • The primary building consists of five classrooms and safe spaces that are used to support emotional regulation. The sports hall is used by both primary and secondary pupils. The vocational building boasts a new art studio, outdoor education work- shop and a music room.
  • Classroom environments are designed to provide a low sensory environment that promote independence and positive engagement. Classrooms displays are consistent and pupils are given information such a visual daily timetable and ‘now and next’ cards.

Things to note

At New Barn School they take part in a wide range of sporting events across the academic year. They are member of the Surrey Special Schools Sports Association (SSSSA) which gives access to many competitions and experiences across the calendar.These vary from Athletics, which is hosted at the K2 arena in Crawley, Badminton tournaments, Cricket tournaments, half termly 5 a side Football tournaments but to name a few.These experiences are imperative in helping young people further develop fundamental skills such as; communication, independence, leadership and teamwork.

New Barn School runs a wide variety of educational trips all the way through the school from KS2 to Post 16 group of pupils.The trips they run are across the curriculum and these link into schemes of work to reinforce classroom learning. The trips also help aid personal development across a number of key areas and further prepare our pupils for life after New Barn School and towards adulthood. In addition, they also have visitors who visit New Barn School, these include the local emergency services, such as the police, Zoo Labs and Artists and more.
