Greenwich Steiner School is an independent school located alongside the green spaces of Greenwich and Blackheath in South East London. They provide a dynamic and progressive version of the Steiner Waldorf curriculum and currently accept children aged 3 to 16. The school is extending upwards and in September 2022 we will have our first Class 11 (National Curriculum Year 12) followed in September 2023 by Class 12. This will give pupils the opportunity to experience a full Steiner Waldorf education in Greenwich.The school is an educational charity and company limited by guarantee. We work in a collegial and collaborative way with the Senior Leadership Team, teachers and administrative staff to develop and deliver good quality Steiner education that meets the needs of all the children in our care.
Kindergarten
You will already know from your own children, that in the Early Years, young children learn by literally imitating everyone and everything around them! They thrive on regular daily and weekly rhythms.If you feel inspired to come and visit our Kindergarten, you will no doubt be immediately struck (like most of our visitors), by the feeling of warmth that pervades the Kindergarten space. Designed to reflect the security of a traditional, family home environment, activities include baking, sewing, gardening and the preparing and sharing of communal meals.
Lower school
Greenwich Steiner School follows the European model and norm in Scandinavian countries, where formal education (literacy and numeracy) only start when a child is developmentally ready. That’s why we pride ourselves on offering your child an education that is age-appropriate. This is typically in the September after a child’s sixth birthday.
Middle school
Middle School is for children aged between 12-14 years (Classes 6-8). In response to the demand for us to continue to offer excellence in education, we were delighted to expand our school in September 2012. A ground-breaking project, we now offer children a purposeful progression in their learning from Class 6 to Class 8. This prepares children, not only for their move to other Steiner schools, but also for those who transition into mainstream schools too.
Upper school
Upper School is for children aged between 14-16 years (Classes 9-10). They are delighted to annouce that our upper school opened in September 2020 starting with Class 9.
AFTERNOON CARE
They provide a nurturing and fun environment with lots of outdoor play, songs, stories and traditional games.
