Early Years & Foundation
Personal, social and emotional development involves helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behaviour in groups; and to have confidence in their own abilities.Literacy development involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest. Communication and language development involves giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.
Primary
In PE, they focus on developing their hand and eye coordination as well as their communication skills. Throwing and catching games is something we focus on whilst usingnumeracy to encourage them to work out a problem whilst carrying out a physical task.During the PE lessons we play games that involve invasion, problme solving whilst using fundamental skills that relate to sports such as cricket, football, basketball etc.
Secondary
Creativity is extremely important. Being able to think and work independently are valuable skills, and at GGSK College we encourage our pupils in Art and Design to explore a wide range of creative, exciting and stimulating opportunities to explore their interests as well developing knowledge of other artists.In art and design, the pupils engage with various art and design activities using a range of artistic and design media that develop their practical, intellectual and aesthetic skills. All pupils produce interesting and personal work that reflects their individuality, thoughts, feelings and ideas. The Mathematics department aims to provide all students with the confidence and mathematical skills required in life and the work place. The syllabus is led by the national curriculum with a range of tasks that emphasize numerical reasoning, problem solving, analytical thinking and practical activities. This encourages students to become independent learners.
Sixth Form
GGSK College welcomes Sixth Form students from many other schools and values their fresh ideas, energy and the considerable contribution that they make to the academic life of the school. GGSK College has a very successful Sixth Form with a high percentage of students going on to university or further study. We realise at GGSK College that there is a wide gap from GCSE to A Level study so we like to provide students with as much one to one support they need.Facililities the school has for Sixth Form study include: A Sixth Form library, a Sixth Form ICT suite and a Sixth Form common room.
The Big Bumblebee Discovery
GGSK primary students are taking part in The Big Bumblebee Discovery! The Big Bumblebee Discovery working with the British Science Association, The Centre of Ecology & Hydrology and EDF Energy. National experiment to gather data to test the hypothesis that the diversity of bumblebees is affected by their immediate surroundings and the wider landscape.
Religious Education
At GGSKC they believe that religious education provokes challenging questions about the ultimate meaning and purpose of life, beliefs about God, the self and the nature of reality, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. It develops pupils' knowledge and understanding of the nature of religion and belief including Sikhism, other principal religions, other religious traditions, and world views that offer answers to these challenging questions.
