Halstead Preparatory School is Independent Primary school in Surrey for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Girls )
They believe that a high standard of education, when delivered by quality teaching, ignites the love and passion for learning that will be with Halstead girls for life. Whilst we actively encourage individuality, there are several common traits of a Halstead Girl – they are bright, sparky, passionate, fun-loving, kind, caring, curious, confident, resourceful, resilient and well-rounded.They are passionate about single sex education for girls, particularly at a young and impressionable age, as it inspires girls to strive and be the very best young women they can be. By the time they move to the next stage of their educational journey they are confident, happy, well-rounded, determined and ready to take on the world. I could not be more proud to lead such a wonderful girls’ school
Nursery
They believe that education starts from birth and that the first years of a child’s development are crucial in laying the foundations for lifelong learning. Therefore, we ensure that all of our girls are nurtured, supported and encouraged to reach their full potential and take the first steps on their learning journey. Our aim is to foster a real love of learning and thirst for knowledge that will see them through their whole Halstead school career and beyond.
Pre Prep
Dedicated friendly, vibrant outdoor and indoor classrooms. Experienced, imaginative, well qualified staff chosen carefully for the skills and expertise they bring to our Pre-Prep. Specialist teaching in PE, dance, music, art, design technology, outdoor learning, ICT, drama, French and art (Year 1) and swimming (which begins in Year 2). The aim is to foster a real love of learning and thirst for knowledge.  All girls are nurtured, supported and encouraged to reach their full potential. They ensure every girl feels valued and included. They seek to encourage natural curiosity by providing plenty of opportunities to investigate and explore inside and outside.

Size –  everyone is known and valued. Small class sizes (maximum 18 girls). Specialist and high quality teaching throughout the school. Broad curriculum, including maths, English, science, PE, dance, French, Spanish, music, drama, ICT, history, geography, art, outdoor learning and swimming. Fantastic facilities, including bespoke science laboratory, gym, art and DT rooms and dedicated outdoor learning area. A wealth of enrichment through visiting speakers and trips for all years. Learning Support
A cosy SEND room sits in the middle of the school and provides a relaxing space for girls to learn in small groups or one to one with our SENDCo. Since our teachers know our girls so well, any need for learning support is quickly identified and girls are closely monitored through our weekly staff meetings and termly ‘class clinic’ meetings. Quality teaching is differentiated for individuals to ensure that all pupils are successful. Should a girl need support from external services, such as occupational therapy or speech and language therapy, sessions can be incorporated into the school day.

Sport
Halstead girls love their sport; with plenty of fixtures, as well as clubs, to participate in.They have dedicated PE teachers who teach all the girls, from ages 2-11.   In Nursery and Reception the primary focus is on gymnastics and multi skills then, in Year 1, girls learn team games and racquet sports. All girls from Years 2 to 6 are taught swimming throughout the year by qualified swimming teachers at the local pool.
Music
Music is a big part of Halstead, with many opportunities to learn new instruments, perform, listen to music and also compose their own songs. We have a school orchestra and choirs start from Year 1. Commencing in Nursery, every girl has specialist music lessons each week.In Year 2, girls begin to learn the recorder and in Year 3 a ‘Music Circus’ is introduced, where all girls are given the opportunity to learn a range of orchestral instruments (flute, clarinet, violin, cello, trumpet, drums and trombone) which are rotated during the course of the year.
Drama
Performing Arts plays a pivotal role in developing the girls’ creativity, confidence, character and life skills. At Halstead, we are extremely proud to offer Drama and Dance as subjects within their own right, enabling every girl from Nursery to Year 6 to be able to enjoy weekly lessons. Throughout the academic year, lessons are delivered by a Drama and Dance specialist, whose expertise aids the development of skills and techniques, as well as self-esteem and self-expression.
Art
The bright, modern and well-equipped art room is an inspiring area to produce work. The pupils are given sketchbooks from Year 1, and these allow the girls to develop their ideas and reflect on their final pieces, whilst seeing their art progress. The pupils engage with a variety of materials and enjoy painting, clay, digital art, printing, sculpture and many more techniques. Topics are completed both individually and collaboratively and works have included Yoyai Kusama and Georgia O’Keeffe.
