Description

Higham Lane School is a State Secondary School for kids aged 11 to 18 (Gender - Mixed)

The School is judged as Outstanding by Ofsted. They were awarded the prestigious World Class Schools accreditation in July 2021 and they were designated a Lead School for School Direct in 2018. Achievement in all forms: artistic, academic, social, cultural, sporting and intellectual are equally valued. The wide curriculum gives scope for students to express preferences and enhance their abilities. They revel in the wide range of opportunities they offer them: taking part in our annual school drama production and music concerts; a huge range of trips that enhance curriculum understanding; ski trips to North America; Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions and so on. They are especially proud of our sporting traditions which have seen netballers and footballers regularly reach national and regional finals. All of these activities widen our learners’ life experiences.

Features

Things to note

Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND)
The Department works closely with primary schools to provide a smooth transition for Special Educational and Disability Needs (SEND) students from the start. The team provides a range of support throughout the day depending on the students' needs. All students on the SEND register have a keyworker and a student profile in line with the SEN Code of Practice 2015. The pupil profile is distributed to the students' teachers so they are all aware of the obstacles each individual student experiences within education, as well as their strengths and interests. Keyworkers will meet with students at least once a fortnight to check on their well-being and progress across the curriculum. Keyworkers liaise with the member of department to ensure issues/concerns are dealt with immediately. SEND students are assessed for external exam access arrangements in Year 9 to ensure they get the correct provision for GCSE exams.
