Description

The Pastures Primary School is a State Primary school for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

The School Motto is ‘Work Hard, Be Kind’ – which fully encapsulates everything that they believe in.  Kindness really is at the centre of everything they do and, they believe, the key to creating happy, respectful, responsible, tolerant, kind children who can make a positive contribution to our society. Here at The Pastures, they challenge all of the children to work hard and always strive to achieve everything that they are capable of – they want the children to be the very best that they can be!  They have very high expectations, set challenging targets and expect a great deal from the children and they do not disappoint them.  The innovative, creative approach to the curriculum, alongside the wide range of broader experiences they offer, ensures that the children enjoy being part of The Pastures and are inspired with an appreciation of learning that will set them up for their next journey in education and their future lives. They constantly tell the children that they have talents and an exciting future awaiting them but make sure that they understand that it is hard work and learning from their mistakes that will enable them to achieve their dreams.

Curriculum
The priority is for all children to gain the skills of reading, writing and maths. It is important to us that children enjoy their learning and we teach a thematic curriculum so that children can practice their literacy and numeracy skills whilst learning about a wide range of topics. The topics covered are broad, balanced and meet the requirements of the National Curriculum.  Within each topic children will learn English, maths and science, together with technology, information technology, history, geography, French, art, music and PE. We also offer RE and Personal, Social and Health Education and citizenship.  Children are predominantly taught through cross curricular topics which add to the enjoyment and engagement in learning.Early reading, writing and phonics is taught using Read Write Inc, a high quality scheme which is intended to ensure that all children are reading by the end of Year 1. Older children will follow a scheme of work linked to the National Strategy and intended to give them an opportunity to practise both reading and writing skills across the curriculum.
