Homefield Preparatory School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 3 to 14 (Gender - 3 to 14 )
Homefield has been renowned for its academic success and family atmosphere for over 150 years. A safe and happy environment, with a real depth of specialist teaching ensures the fulfilment of our boys’ individual potential. A generous education should be aimed at knowledge and skill, but also at building good character. The outcomes speak for themselves with “exceptionally positive” students who have “high levels of self-confidence, self-awareness and self-discipline…a well-developed sense of right and wrong…highly collaborative and supporting of each other…a strong appreciation of diversity.” (Inspectorate 2021).Every year they receive a significant number of offers to both grammars and top independents. They serve some of the very best senior schools in the country, either at 11+ or 13+. These expectations are not around undue pressure to pass exams. We encourage an enlightened individual who "can do all things if he will". Creative, inquisitive, and inventive.
Lower School
When you enter our Lower School, you’ll find boys that are energetic, excited, kind and proud to be a key part of Homefield Prep. We focus on opportunities to celebrate individual and collaborative success and also where challenge is needed to ensure that every boy feels confident and well-prepared.We understand how early social, emotional and academic development is fundamental in forming positive learning attitudes and behaviours. Learning is not passive, but a partnership. As a cohesive team that works closely with specialist teachers across the school, they reach beyond academic achievement to create an environment of enriched opportunity; holding sports, music and languages in equal esteem. They recognise that the world needs creative problem solvers, and so they provide a broad curriculum which encourages curiosity, critical thinking and opportunity to step beyond comfort zones. They aim to give our boys a rich, broad offer which enables them to make discerning choices when they are ready to start their learning journey across sports, arts, academia, or otherwise.
Upper School
All of the senior boys benefit from specialist teachers for all of their lessons who challenge them to fulfil their potential in every subject. Many of the senior faculty have a background in teaching to GCSE and A-level standard. The curriculum is designed to develop our boys as individuals, thoroughly preparing them for examinations to a wide range of senior schools - our successful approach is reflected in the fact that so many of the boys are awarded scholarships to some of the best senior schools in the country. Each year our boys are awarded offers to the very best Independent and State Grammar schools in London and Surrey. In addition to nurturing the academic development of the boys, they also have an extensive extra-curricular provision which encourages the boys to develop a range of talents. Activities range from Chinese, Chess, LAMDA to Chamber Choir, Jazz Orchestra, Squash, Judo and Karate.
Extra-Curricular Clubs
They aim to provide a wealth of opportunities to complement, enrich and extend those already offered by the school curriculum. They believe that boys flourish when given access to a wide variety of opportunities, often discovering an interest or talent that may be developed through their life. They want boys to try new skills, have fun, learn and develop as individuals. At Homefield Prep they pride ourselves on the wide range of clubs which are available.
Art
They have invested in a leading edge Art and Design studio as well as quality teaching from a highly specialised and qualified Art Department. Even the younger boys get to use the Studio to experience a wide variety of medium and expression. There is an emphasis on skills centred around technical drawing techniques. This investment means that many of the boys are enabled to develop a strong portfolio when they leave them, many taking up scholarships as a result. In technology, the boys learn how to plan, design, make and evaluate products using specialised equipment. Numerous awards are won by Homefield boys each year. The boys' work is celebrated in displays around the school and in the local community.
Music
At Homefield we believe that music should be an essential part of the all-round education that the boys receive. Music lessons are part of the curriculum and all boys from Reception through to Year 8 have regular music lessons. The boys learn how to read music, sing from notation or by rote, play recorders, keyboards and tuned percussion, leading to composing their own music. 80% of the boys also choose to take individual musical instrument lessons.
Sport
At Homefield the boys are taught by specialist sport teachers right from their time in Reception, all the way through to Year 8. They have a strong tradition of encouraging sport for all, combined with regional and team successes. Competitive fixtures in the four main sports of Football, Rugby, Hockey and Cricket are held regularly. Pupils are encouraged to have a go at everything and to be ambitious for themselves.
Selection Criteria: Selective
As a selective school, once they have your registration form they will make arrangements with you for your son to meet with them.
