Description

Hopespring Sunderland is registered as an independent school with the department for education and undergoes inspections by ofsted under the education inspection framework. Hopespring Sunderland is run by Hopespring Charity, focusing on the needs of those who are struggling in school. It is one of two Hopespring independent schools across the North East serving the needs of some of the most vulnerable young people in the region. They were registered in March 2020.

Facilities

They began working with more vulnerable children who carried mental health diagnoses, or perhaps had gone undiagnosed for some time, as well as those with Special Educational Needs. They took children for whom the conventional class size of 30-40 in a room would just never work. They began to work more frequently with Looked After children, taking referrals not just from schools but also local social services and Social Care.

Things to note

In 2019, following extensive consultation with Together for Children, they opened up a second independent therapeutic school to serve the city of Sunderland.
