Description

Maidwell Hall School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 4 to 13 (Gender - 4 to 13 )

Maidwell Hall is a boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 4-13. Set in the midst of the most beautiful Northamptonshire countryside, it is a truly charmed place for children to spend their childhood. They are always pleased to hear that children from Maidwell Hall are thought of as polite, happy and articulate, as they are very aware of the vital importance of these formative years in the life of a child and take the responsibilities seriously. First and foremost we want each child's experience of Maidwell Hall to be a thoroughly happy, enjoyable and fulfilling one.The children enjoy a great sense of freedom in the extensive grounds and are encouraged to climb trees and build dens with their friends, and while they have grown in recent years, they have sought to remain small enough to maintain the highly personalised approach that they consider to be so essential.

Facilities

Academic
Throughout the school pupils are taught by subject specialists; in their first year they have most lessons in their form room but thereafter all lessons are taught in subject classrooms. Pupils are streamed from arrival at the school, with class sizes never going above fifteen. This year the AB rate was an impressive 79% , with an AA* rate of 58%. Five candidates got straight A's and they had the top candidates in Biology and History at Rugby, the 2nd overall candidate at Radley as well as the top performer in Classics, three special commendations from Uppingham and two excellent performance awards from Oundle. This was all in addition to the scholarship awards.

Pre Prep
The thriving Pre-Prep is housed in a separate building from the upper school, giving the younger children comfort and security. It is there that experienced classroom teachers and teaching assistants foster a love of learning and lay solid educational foundations in reading, writing and mathematics. Through the delivery of non-core subjects, such as Art, DT, PSHE, Science, History, Geography and ICT, the children are encouraged to think creatively and develop strong enquiring minds. The Pre-Prep children benefit greatly from our subject specialist teachers for Music, French, PE, Games and Swimming, including a weekly Ballet lesson led by Miss Beth from the Northamptonshire School of Dance, and they enjoy these specialist lessons in our beautiful old school building. Class sizes are small, with a maximum number of 15 children.

The Forest School
As part of their curriculum, the children are able to explore the very extensive grounds at Maidwell Hall, including the gardens, woodland and fields. They believe that all children benefit both physically and mentally from spending as much time as possible outdoors and they are lucky to have such special grounds. They nurture a love of nature in the Pre-Prep by running weekly afternoon Forest School sessions. These are directed by Mrs Addison, who is a trained Forest School Leader. By working outdoors, the children are given opportunities to learn how to work as part of a team, assess risk and problem solve, particularly when learning how to build dens and make campfires!
