Park School for Girls is Independent Secondary school in Selective for kids aged 4 to 16 (Gender - 4 to 16 )
Here at Park School, they are all committed to a holistic approach to education, and they all believe in the importance of the development of each and every child as a whole person. The expectations are high, and like you, they want the very best for all of our pupils; the ethos of putting children first underpins everything that they do. All children are entitled to the highest quality education to enable them to achieve their full potential and they provide an environment where all children can flourish and succeed; the small class sizes enable a very personalised learning experience for each and every child. They are committed to nurturing a love of learning in all of the pupils from Reception through to Year 11 and for this to happen, they believe that learning needs to be active, creative and enjoyable. They understand that passing examinations is important, and they are very proud that they are currently ranked 6th nationally for GCSE results*, however, they want the pupils to take them in their stride, and value their learning beyond exam grades.
EYFS
In Reception at Park School for Girls, we provide a stimulating, nurturing environment where each child’s needs are catered for through a balance of structured activities and free-play learning activities, both indoors and outdoors. Developing children’s social skills is a major part of the Reception curriculum and they firmly believe that learning should be absorbing, challenging and plenty of fun! The majority of learning is taught through a range of topics, such as Super Me, and Our Wonderful World in order to give the children a context and purpose for learning. The skills necessary to become a proficient reader are given high priority. The School follows the Twinkl Phonics Programme. They use the Collins Big Cat reading books supported by many well-known reading schemes to develop reading skills. Plenty of activities are given to prepare children for more formal work in English and Mathematics in Year One and Two. Throughout the week the pupils in Reception also receive specialist teaching in Music, PE and French.
Physical Education
Physical Education is a thriving department and the hub of school life. Pupils from Reception to Year 11 participate in a wide range of activities ranging from creativity, team sports and individual sports. Physical development is about improving skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement. It helps children gain confidence in what they can do and it enables them to feel the positive benefits of being healthy and active. Effective physical development helps the children develop a positive sense of well being. Physical education develops pupils’ physical competence and their ability to use this to perform in a range of activities. It provides opportunities for them to be creative, competitive and to face up to different challenges as individuals and in teams.
PSHEC
PSHEC stands for Personal, Social, Health Education and Careers, which also incorporates Economic Wellbeing. The Department for Education (DfE) considers PSHEC education ‘an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education’. Independent schools inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) are required to have schemes of work for PSHEC which reflect the aims and ethos of the school and that are ‘implemented effectively’.PSHEC education is a school subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe, and prepare for life and work in modern Britain. Evidence shows that well-delivered PSHEC programmes have an impact on both academic and non-academic outcomes for pupils.
