Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet is leading State Secondary school in Barnet. This is a Selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Boys
Queen Elizabeth's is a state-funded grammar school, with 449 years' experience of producing confident, able and responsible young men. We provide a totally meritocratic environment, in which our boys reach their very considerable potential both in their academic and extra-curricular pursuits. QE offers a meticulous and richly faceted holistic approach to the education of the boys in our charge. It is this approach, combined with our excellent facilities and a proud history dating back to 1573, that make the QE experience truly a state school experience like no other.
Faculty of Arts
Through Art, Music and Drama lessons, pupils develop their own creativity and skills, while simultaneously discovering and experiencing some of the finest fruits of the human spirit. The starting point for studying the Arts is that they are both rewarding and fun, and we hope that boys will enjoy their lessons in these subjects.
Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences
The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences includes a wide range of disciplines which use diverse approaches and methodologies to understand cultures and societies. Exploring past and present, the concrete and the intangible, these subjects embrace both subjective and empirical knowledge; pupils gain skills, insights and inspiration as they engage with every aspect of human civilisation.
Faculty of Literature & Languages
The study of language and literature opens up the world of expression and communication – vital elements in what make us all human. Whether studying English, modern foreign languages or ancient languages of the classical world, boys explore great writing by significant authors, while also broadening their vocabulary and acquiring an understanding of grammar.
Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics
Skills in the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) provide the foundations for the industrial and corporate world and thus underpin all modern economies. These subjects form the basis for a very large number of careers. Some are obvious – research scientist, doctor, engineer and accountant, for example – but others, such as software developer, pilot and architect, less so.
Physical Education (PE)
They aim to cater for all abilities and offer a programme that supports pupil progress from the foundational basics all the way through to élite level. Fundamental movement skills are taught during Years 7–9. Alongside this, we seek to develop communication skills and, through team and individual sports, to nurture leadership and resilience
Clubs & Extra-Curricular
Opportunities for enrichment abound at QE: the list of extra-curricular clubs and societies is broad, long and ever-evolving. Whether boys find fulfilment and interest in areas such Drama, Musical Performance and Sports, or in another field of endeavour – from chess, computing and politics to comics, debating and Sherlock Holmes – QE usually has a club or group that will cater for their needs.
Drama
While Drama lessons play an important part in teaching the necessary skills and in deepening boys’ appreciation of the text in hand, Drama is supremely about performance. At Queen Elizabeth’s School, our calendar is populated with extra-curricular opportunities for boys to display and develop their talents in Drama, whether their gifts lie in appearances on stage, or in the many vital supporting roles behind the scenes.
Music
Musical performance is an essential part of life at Queen Elizabeth’s School. Through our extensive concert programme and other performance opportunities, musicians and audiences are bound together in enjoyment of some of the most sublime products of human creativity.
Sports
Queen Elizabeth’s School offers boys opportunities to excel in a wide variety of sports and to achieve School, county, divisional and national honours. The high-quality teaching and coaching and excellent facilities enable our young sportsmen to make the most of their talent. We expect boys to strive for such honours through determination and commitment, which includes involvement in mid-week and Saturday practices and fixtures.
