Description

Queen Ethelburga's College is a highly selective independentpreparatoryco-educational day school  for kids aged 2 to 19.

Facilities

  • The outstanding range of high quality facilities on campus enables to deliver the wide range of sporting activities that they have on offer so successfully.
  • The QE offer is unique, in that they have a dedicated Sports Village, completed in 2016, to which all students have access to inside and outside of formal school hours.  
  • The Village is home to a 25-metre swimming pool, triple court sports hall, 100 station fitness suite and free weights centre. Outside they have a four-lane synthetic cushioned running track and over 30 acres of grass and 3G artificial pitches. They also have a number of specialist studios used for; martial arts, wrestling, dance, gymnastics, table tennis, cycling, archery, fencing and boxing.  
  • In addition to all this, the students can make use of an eight-metre climbing wall at the campus activity centre, which also houses an assault course, BMX track and additional tennis courts. There really is something for everyone and for all abilities.

Things to note

  • The creative arts department at Queen Ethelburga’s combines the skills and resources of the Art and Design department and the Design and Technology department to offer a fantastic learning experience and a range of subject routes that go beyond the traditional subject choices.
  • There are a wide range of sports and activities available including: rugby, hockey, football, netball, cricket, swimming, basketball, rounders, tennis, fencing, dance, gymnastics, trampolining, archery, cross country, badminton, and volleyball.  
  • Queen Ethelburga’s has its own Combined Cadet Force (CCF), bringing together an Army Section (Yorkshire Regiment) and an RAF section.

Admission Details

Chapter House Early Years to Nursery (from 3 months old): Children can attend Chapter House at any point during the academic year. Students move up to Reception when they are four.

Chapter House Infants and Juniors (Reception to Year 5): Children attend Reception in the September after they are four and can join in subsequent years. In Year 5 students are prepared for transition into King's Magna.  

King’s Magna (Year 6 to Year 9): Students attend King's Magna when they reach Year 6 and can join in subsequent years. In Year 9 students are prepared for transition into the College or the Faculty. 

The College (Year 10 to Year 13): Students can join the College at the beginning of Year 10 or Year 12. They follow a traditional academic route towards higher education, through GCSE and A Level courses.  

The Faculty (Year 10 to Year 13): Students can join the Faculty at the beginning of Year 10 or Year 12. They follow a personalised pathway of academic, creative or vocational courses designed to enable them to progress towards higher education or employment.  

Entrance test and offer acceptance: Once an application has been received applicants will be invited to visit QE to sit an entrance test. This is so that they might see where each student’s talents lie and where they may need support. This assessment is considered in conjunction with a recent report from the student’s current school, and a meeting with a relevant member of academic staff at QE.

If an offer of a place at QE is made to a student, and it is accepted, a registration form and a non-refundable fee of £295 is required to secure the place.

Scholarships

Academic: The Collegiate provides academic scholarships for UK day and boarding students. Scholarships are awarded to those students who show exceptional academic ability and potential. They are available to students entering Year 12.

Sports: The Collegiate provides a range of sporting teams and opportunities available to students. Scholarships are awarded to those UK day and boarding students who have represented their county, region or national team and can demonstrate a positive approach to both sports and learning. They are available to students entering Years 7, 10 and 12.

Music and Drama: The Collegiate provides music and drama scholarships for UK day students, in addition to a complimentary weekly lesson in their chosen subject with a trained specialist. They are available to students entering Years 7, 10 and 12.
