Rydes Hill Preparatory School is Independent Primary school in Surrey for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
Rydes Hill educates girls from 3 to 11 and boys from 3 to 7 within idyllic surroundings in the Guildford suburbs. We pride ourselves on our strong family feel and provide a caring and ambitious environment for children to grow in confidence and fulfil their potential. As a relatively small School, we are immensely proud of our results, leading many of our parents to refer to us as 'Small but Mighty'. Rydes Hill is a Catholic School and we welcome families of all faiths and beliefs.
NURSERY
The Rydes Hill pre-school Nursery ignites children’s natural curiosity within a secure, fun and stimulating environment. The children enjoy a wealth of experiences, tapping into our Rydes Hill specialist teachers for outdoor forest school, music classes, drama, dance and a number of sporting activities. We are thrilled to announce that due to unprecedented demand we expanded our nursery in September 2021 and now have Acorns class for our rising 3 and 3 year olds, and children starting reception the following year are in Oaks. They accept children into our Nursery from rising 3 which means children can join us at the beginning of the term in which they turn 3. Uniquely, Rydes Hill offers the flexibility for your child to attend attend term time only or all-year round (for 48 weeks of the year) and we provide wrap around care from 7.30am to 6pm if required.
PRE PREP
Throughout the Pre-Prep years the emphasis is placed on ensuring the happiness and well being of every pupil and nurturing their individual talents. They create a stimulating and engaging learning environment where each child can thrive, develop and learn at the right pace for them. Through small class sizes, a broad and dynamic curriculum and high academic standards we seek to develop confidence, emotional resilience and intellectual curiosity in each and every child. With excellent adult to child ratios we are able to ensure each child receives the best possible support and encouragement.
PREP
During the Prep years, we encourage our girls to be observant, to wonder, to speculate and to seek explanations for the things they notice and experience. Each day is varied and stimulating with the form teachers working in close harmony with our specialist teachers in maths, science, music, drama, computing, French and PE.They understand and embrace the individual strengths and character of each child to ensure that every lesson challenges and engages them, opening the door to their potential and preparing them for their next move to the senior school of their choice.
Music
Within the thriving music department the children are encouraged to discover their musical potential and realise their natural talents. We aim to foster children’s enjoyment and understanding of music from a young age with all pupils in Pre-Prep and above, given the opportunity to learn the violin, a wind and a brass instrument. The main aim is to foster children's enjoyment and understanding of music through practical application and active involvement in a wide range of musical activities, both in and out of class lesson time. The music, drama and ballet departments work closely together to encourage a high standard of performance throughout the year.
Drama
Drama and the performing arts are a vibrant and vital part of life at Rydes Hill. Learning to stand up and talk in public, or perform in any way, is a invaluable life skill and even those who do not come to it naturally, develop an ease in standing up in front of others. All children are introduced to Speech and Drama from Kindergarten. Throughout their time with us, our pupils have ample opportunity to perform a variety of material via performance poetry, sketches, musicals, plays and solo performances in front of their peers, the whole School, parents and family.
Outdoor Learning
The outdoors, the fresh air and a vitality of spirit, all prime our pupils for their exciting exploration in the classroomFrom Nursery onwards, our children enjoy forest adventures in the school grounds examining the flora and fauna, hunting for mini-beasts, building dens and fires, whittling sticks, foraging and anything else their imaginations can create. This outdoor learning programme sparks the children's imagination, creativity and enquiring skills whilst encouraging a sense of independence and responsibility.
