Senior
The Senior School consists of Lower School (Years 7, 8 and 9) and Upper School (Years 10 and 11). Each girl is a member of one of four Houses: Livingstone, Nelson, Nightingale and Wellington. As well as providing fun and friendly competition, the House System ensures social mixing with different age groups.So this is the ideal environment for each girl to learn about responsibility, taking risks and inspiring others. It’s a great preparation for life beyond school. They value creativity and imagination, and aim to provide all students with a firm basis of skills in Art on which to build projects that foster individuality and confidence. They focus on teaching drawing technique as a ‘backbone’ to provide a platform from which students can move into a working with a wide range of different media and materials. Art lessons are underpinned by strong contextual links and class debate that focuses on the work of a range of artists as inspiration for the students’ own practice.
Sixth Form
That means achieving the best A Level results possible, making the most of the wonderfully varied extra-curricular programme, and enjoying the freedom of flexitime working. Extra Curricular
The girls’ understanding of and enthusiasm for the world is explored and extended through the huge variety of clubs and activities on offer. From sport and music to dance and drama, we have all tastes covered.Meanwhile, our outdoor learning classroom offers the girls unique experiences such as learning bush craft skills. Finally, the residential trips for Year 3 to Year 6 include experiencing life in Tudor England at Hooke Court and travelling to Dorset for an exciting outdoor programme, including dragon boating in Poole Harbour!
Sport
Prep School Sport aims to develop the girls’ skills and understanding, along with a passion for a wide range of sports. In the Autumn and Spring Terms, girls in Key Stage 2 participate in cross country, gymnastics, hockey, netball and swimming. They encourage the girls to take part in the many clubs we offer and aim to help them find their ‘forever sports’. For our youngest sportswomen in Key Stage 1, they focus on building a solid foundation of core physical skills through a programme of multi-activities, games, gymnastics, and swimming. In the Summer Term the focus switches to athletics, cricket and tennis.
Music
All Tormead Prep and Pre-Prep girls participate in music lessons with specialist teachers from Reception to Year 6. Extra-curricular music at Tormead Prep is lively and flourishing and involves pupils from across the whole age range of the school working together. We offer a wide range of opportunities in which all girls are encouraged to participate at a level appropriate to her ability.
