Sheffield High School is an independent girls' school for kids aged 3 to 18.

Facilities

Sport and PE: Modern and well-equipped facilities are the foundation of Sheffield High School for Girls tradition of sporting excellence. All-weather pitches cater for outdoor sports like hockey, netball and tennis, while the School’s extensive sports complex including an indoor Sports Hall and separate Gym provides state-of-the-art accommodation for trampolining, gymnastics and dance.

Music: Music flourishes throughout the school in new suite of the most up-to-date equipment. 

Information and Communication Technology:

Things to note

  • Sport and Physical Education are a very important and hugely popular part of life at Sheffield Girls’ Junior School. Sports include Netball, Hockey, Rounders and Athletics.
  • The Junior School is surrounded by dedicated outdoor spaces that our girls are regularly encouraged to make use of in order to stay active. PE and Games lessons are taught in the Junior School Hall, the Gym and on the courts and playing fields. Girls in Year 3 – 6 go swimming at a local swimming pool. 
  • Dance is taught as part of the Physical Education curriculum and a variety of styles and music is explored. There are opportunities to participate in extra-curricular Dance through Ballet, and for Years 5 and 6, some performance dance groups organised by Senior School pupils.
  • Individual music lessons are offered to all girls, and they have peripatetic music teachers who teach piano, violin, viola, cello, clarinet, flute, acoustic guitar, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tenor horn, euphonium, French horn, tuba, harp, drums and orchestral percussion. 
  • Opportunities for your daughter to take part in Drama in the Junior School are abundant. Speech and Drama lessons are also very popular and they are provided (at extra cost) by a specialist teacher who prepares girls for LAMDA examinations.
  • Art is a vital and vibrant part of the Junior School curriculum. Your daughter will study a variety of artists and explore an exciting range of media and materials to develop her creative talents.Recent projects include whole-school participation in the Art at Chatsworth exhibition, as well as

Admission Details

Year 1 - Year 6: Girls are invited to spend a taster day, in a class with girls of their own age, during which time they will be assessed in English, Mathematics and Reading. They offer places following the successful completion of assessments.

Year 7: On the Year 7 Entrance Examination day, your daughter will sit papers in Maths and English. The papers are based on the National Curriculum and there is no need for girls to prepare for these assessments. Your daughter will have lunch and participate in team building activities in the afternoon. 

Year 8 - Year 10: Girls are invited to spend a taster day, in a class with girls of their own age, during which time they will complete assessments in English and Mathematics. They offer places following the successful completion of assessments. Further visits are arranged before your daughter starts at the school so she has the opportunity to meet her class and teachers. For entry into Year 8 – Year 10 they offer flexible testing arrangements where possible and subject to there being places available. 

Sixth Form: Girls join Sixth Form from a wide range of schools. New entrants to the Sixth Form are expected to achieve at least 7 GCSEs including English and Mathematics, at grade 4 or above, with grade 6 or above in her chosen Advanced Level subjects. If her chosen A Level subjects include Maths or a Science, she will be expected to achieve a grade 7 or above for that subject.

Scholarships

Sixth Form Scholarships: The award of a Sixth Form Scholarship at Sheffield Girls’ recognises your current outstanding performance and future potential.
