Shoreham College

Description

Shoreham College is an independent day school for boys and girls aged 3 to 16, which is located in Shoreham-by-Sea on the Sussex coast between Brighton and Worthing.

Facilities

  • Shoreham College is a refreshing blend of history, tradition, and innovation. Beyond ancient flint walls, you will find Tudor manor house, the magnificent oaks, and spacious playing fields.
  • Modern, purpose built facilities includes a full sized sports hall, state of the art STEM facilities, well-appointed science laboratories, a delightful drama studio, and a heated open-air swimming pool. Nestling amidst this modernity, in perfect harmony, is the jewel in the crown, an art studio which started life 500 years ago as the original manor house.
  • The grounds provide a safe, healthy, and inspiring environment for pupils to learn and grow. A thriving forest school provides an exciting outdoor classroom, and fantastic academic facilities ensure that pupils have all the resources they need to excel.

Features

Things to note

  • They offer a vibrant range of after school clubs and activities to cater to every child’s interests and talents. The clubs and activities provide a myriad of opportunities for children to consolidate friendships, develop important skills, and have fun. The diverse programme includes: football, netball, rugby, multi sports, swimming, athletics, dance, craft, sewing, chess, design technology, story club, choir, and band. Pupils in Year 3 and above can also attend prep.
  • At Shoreham College, they believe learning extends beyond the classroom. The junior pupils undertake a broad range of visits to enhance and support their curriculum. The focus is on education and fun, and children love to explore new places. Whether pupils are investigating the oldest secular building in Sussex, scaling the walls of a medieval castle, or mingling with the meerkats at Marwell Zoo, they return with happy memories and a new understanding of the wider world and themselves. The trips include Portsmouth Naval Dockyards, Arundel and Lewes castles, Chichester Cathedral, the Millennium Seed Bank, Marlipins Museum, Adur recycling centre, and Marwell Zoo.

Admission Details

Step 1 – Initial contact: The ideal way for you to meet and visit Shoreham College is at one of the Open Mornings. You are also welcome to arrange an individual visit to tour the school with Principal, Mrs Sarah Bakhtiari. Please call to arrange an individual visit, or email admissions officer Mrs Hall here.

Step 2 – Reports and Taster Day: If you are considering applying to Shoreham College, they ask you to provide two of your child’s most recent school reports and some other relevant information. They invite your child to visit Shoreham College either for a morning taster session or a full day, depending on their age. This is a great opportunity for your child to get to know their prospective classmates and meet the teachers. On the day, children entering Year 5 or above undertake one or more aptitude assessments. There is no preparation required, and they do not use this information to decide whether an offer is made.

Stage 3 – Offer: Following the taster day, an offer will be made subject to availability and references. Shoreham College is a mainstream academically non-selective school, but the Principal may decline to offer a place at her discretion. Please contact admissions officer to find out further information regarding behavioural and curriculum requirements.

Stage 4 – Acceptance: Once they have made the offer, you should complete the registration form and return it with the required deposit. They strongly recommend early acceptance as they consider registrations in the order that they receive them. Confirmation of acceptance follows two terms before entry. Joining information will be sent to you at the appropriate time. For children starting in September, there may be an induction event at the end of the preceding summer term. Children are welcome to join at any point during the academic year.
