Admission Details

Students are referred to Silver Birch School by various agencies and school networks from across Birmingham and by individual schools. Prospective students are encouraged to visit during school hours and are offered a place subject to a satisfactory interview. If appropriate, students undergo an assessment period to ensure the school can meet their educational needs. On joining Silver Birch School there is an initial ½ day school induction session. Silver Birch School have a Code of Conduct, Learning Agreement and Anti-Bullying Policy which all students are obliged to commit to. Parents/carers are welcome to request a list of staff members (to be provided within three working days). All staff members and those of Shard End Community Centre coming in to contact with our students have Enhanced DBS checks and have been cleared to work with children.The school operates an ‘Open-door’ policy an appointment is not normally necessary to visit the school. At Silver Birch School, we believe that regular attendance is essential in ensuring that pupils make the most of their ability. Good attendance is also an important employability skill that pupils will need when they move on to employment, apprenticeships or further education. To that end, they constantly strive to maintain a welcoming and supportive environment at Silver Birch School that encourages and maintains high attendance. Exams:

  • - Assessments are completed with pupils at least once per term to determine progress
  • - Teachers will book exams when they feel that their pupil is confident with every objective at their current working level
  • - Parents/carers will be sent a letter to inform them that the pupil is ready to take an exam
  • - On the day of the exam, the examination officer or invigilator will sit with the pupil and talk through the rules and any concerns they may have
