Nursery
South Lee Nursery caters for children from four months old, making the transfer from home to Nursery as smooth as possible. It is a self-contained and secure environment, providing education for children up to four years of age.South Lee Nursery operates from several rooms in purpose built premises, within the grounds of South Lee School in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The opening times are 8.00am to 6.00pm weekdays only, with the option of all year round or term time only contracts. A delicious lunch and healthy snack will be provided during this time.Breakfast club is available from 7.30am for all pupils. tHEY offer an after school care facility within the main school until 6.00pm, which is available to nursery children at an additional cost. Availability depends on number and age of children, as stringent adult child ratios must be adhered to
Pre-Prep
South Lee Pre-Prep is a happy, friendly and nurturing environment. We aim to help each individual to thrive both academically and socially. We believe that every child should feel confident, happy, secure and valued.Children transitioning from our Early Years, move effortlessly into the more structured learning environment of the Pre-Prep. Here, key focus is on the development in English and Maths, which has already started in the EYFS. In addition, we provide a broad and balanced curriculum going beyond the National Curriculum to include Geography, History, Science, ICT, French, Art, Design, Music, Religious Studies, PE and PSHEE.
Prep
The Prep School offers a five-year programme that will equip each child for the transition to senior school. We strive to ensure, in close partnership with parents, that our pupils develop into well educated, balanced and confident teenagers, with an understanding of both personal and group responsibility.Prep School starts at Year 4, when the children are aged 8+. To ease the transition from Pre-Prep to Prep School, each Year 4 class has a form teacher. The pupils have a ‘home room’ where many of their lessons are taught. The form teacher oversees their general welfare and teaches them a variety of academic subjects. Specialist teachers support and complement the important work of the form teachers.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
At South Lee, we encourage our students to try new activities to promote a healthy mind and body, whilst also broadening their interests. We have an extensive list of extra-curricular activities that are refreshed throughout the year.
FOREST SCHOOL
Originating in Scandinavia, the concept of Forest School is becoming more popular in UK schools. South Lee has a well-established Forest School as they see the huge benefits child gain from learning in nature. Apart from being in the fresh air, Forest School develops children’s skills set in practical building, problem-solving and collaboration, as well as fostering a deeper understanding of nature, eco-systems and sustainability. It really helps to build their confidence and self-esteem too. They have a large, dedicated Forest School space with three areas and two outdoor classrooms. Unlike most other schools, children benefit from Forest School the whole way through from Nursery to Year 8.
