Springmead Preparatory School is Independent Primary school in Somerset for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
Situated in the beautiful village of Beckington, near Frome, on the Wiltshire – Somerset border, Springmead welcomes you and your family to visit and experience Springmead first hand.Alongside the pupils performing consistently well academically, Springmead School also punches well above its weight in terms of provision and extra-curricular opportunities. For some very important educational reasons: they want children to have as many opportunities as possible to develop a sense of self, a sense of their own unique and brilliant abilities and to realise their possibilities and potential. As a result, when you visit you will probably find us learning science in our wildlife area, practising maths in the playing fields, learning literacy in the garden or acting out important historical moments.
The Nursery
The self-contained, purpose designed Nursery provides the children with an environment which is secure, bright, happy and stimulating. The Nursery children are led by a Norland trained, qualified teacher supported by qualified practitioners. The indoor space is separated into activity areas, whilst the attached, garden area provides an ideal space for exploration outside, this is in addition to use of our large playground, lawned area, playing field, wildlife area and beautiful village location!
The Pre-Prep School
The Pre-Prep School provides a happy and stimulating introduction to school for children aged 4 -7 years. The three classes in this department are Reception class, Year One and Year Two.As the children move into the Pre-Prep School, they benefit from a maximum class sizes of 18 with their own qualified class teacher, supported by teaching assistants and specialist teachers for some subjects.Small classes enable the class teacher to provide a one-to-one education tailored to the needs of each child so that individual potential can be nurtured and realised.
The Preparatory School
Year 3 to Year 6, The Prep department offers children from Year 3 to Year 6 the potential to explore a wide range of activities and educational experiences. The ethos and atmosphere is one of happy purposefulness within a lively school schedule. Strong emphasis is placed on creating a friendly and supportive environment in which pupils can develop their self-esteem and talents to the full.
BUSHCRAFT & COUNTRYLORE
Mark and Lucy Hotson, former parents, are the Bushcraft leaders who work with our Year 6 children throughout the year. They have specialist knowledge within this area and their enthusiasm is inspiring for both children and staff. Mark himself has trained with Ray Mears.
SWIMMING IS A LIFE-LONG SKILL
They are very proud of our swimming programme at Springmead School. Every child from reception to year 6 swims every week. The national requirement, that every child leaves primary school being able to swim 25 metres has always been met at the school, and more often than not exceeded, the school relay team has competed at the National Primary School Championships on several occasions.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
Springmead School Council is made up of children from Year 1 to Year 6. Views of all children in the main school are sought by the council members at weekly ‘surgeries’ and discussed at half-termly council meetings. Children are elected by their class members and stay on the council for one and half terms.
SPORT
Sport and physical education is fundamental to the early development of children. The holistic development of children is enhanced through the skills learned during play, physical education and sport. At Springmead, physical education and sport are given high priority from Nursery to Year 6. The children have regular P.E. lessons, both indoors and outdoors, delivered by specialist teachers with a passion for sport.
Selection Criteria: Selective
The children undertake assessments each year so that we can continually measure the academic performance. They use a range of nationally recognised tests for reading, spelling, writing, reading comprehension and maths.A fundamental requirement of a preparatory school is to fully prepare pupils for entrance exams to independent senior schools.
