St Ambrose Barlow Catholic Primary School is a State Primary School for kids aged 4 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
At Saint Ambrose Barlow we believe that every child is a unique being, created in the image of God. Within the school, they seek to create a happy, friendly and supportive environment, where every child has the opportunity to develop spiritually, intellectually and socially. As a distinctly Catholic school they take pride in the school’s mission statement – ‘I have come that they may have life and have it to the full’ and strive to live it out each and every day. It is the aim of everyone in the school to provide the best possible opportunities for the children in our care and to help them grow in their journey of faith, with Gospel values at the centre of everything they do. In the school, children are encouraged to aim for the highest possible standards by providing a range of exciting opportunities and experiences within our broad and balanced curriculum. The dedicated staff play an integral role in fostering a family atmosphere, where children feel secure and are able to thrive.
Curriculum
At St Ambrose Barlow Catholic Primary School we aim to create a safe , secure, inspiring and creative learning environment where children feel valued and happy. They want the pupils to become independent and resilient learners, who enjoy learning, and are enabled to achieve excellence and experience success. The teachers deliver an ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum in each year group, which is bespoke to our school, based on the National Curriculum, and aims to inspire and challenges the pupils. They want the children to achieve the highest possible standards, and to enjoy a curriculum which is both broad and balanced. At St Ambrose Barlow Catholic Primary School, they aim to foster a love of language and reading and, therefore, attach great importance to enabling the children to become fluent readers. We use ‘Supersonic Phonic Friends.’ As our phonics scheme. This programme is a fully systematic, synthetic phonic approach ranging from the simple to the complex spellings of the alphabetic code. Supported by their Supersonic Phonic friends, this approach will ensure children develop confidence and apply each skill to their own reading and writing.
SEND
At St. Ambrose Barlow Catholic Primary School, we aim to ensure that all children, regardless of their ability or specific needs, achieve to the best of their ability. As first and foremost a Catholic school, they make it the mission to ensure our pupils ‘Live life to the full’ (John 10:10) maximising the potential in each and every child. At St Ambrose Barlow, we strive to achieve effective, inclusive classrooms where the children receive high quality teaching every day. This includes every class teacher having the highest expectations for every child, basing their teaching on what the child already knows and looking for ways to move their learning on, providing different strategies of teaching and learning so that all children succeed and monitoring carefully the progress made by each child. Class teachers assess each child daily and half termly. These assessments allow the class teacher to plan next steps for each child so that they make expected progress across all subjects.
Remote Learning
Each weekday teachers will arrange two live check-in meetings where all pupils can log in and connect with their classroom teacher virtually via a group video meeting. These will be scheduled for one each morning and one each afternoon. Session times will vary for each year group to allow for change over between any siblings who may be sharing a device. They will be hosted via Microsoft Teams, and children will have individual login details with which to access these sessions. The sessions will serve as an opportunity to connect with their classroom teachers on a regular basis, and as an opportunity for teachers to introduce the overview of the day/session, as a daily wellbeing check in, and also as a register of engagement.
