St Andrew's Prep

Description

St Andrew's Prep is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 1 to 14 (Gender - 1 to 14 )

Childhood is precious and the St Andrew’s Prep staff is committed to giving each of the children the happiest of starts in a warm and friendly environment while helping them to develop their individual strengths and characters. They provide a firm academic grounding across our broad curriculum and ensure that every lesson and learning opportunity stimulates, encourages and engages the children. They believe lessons learned in the classroom are as important as those learned outside – on the sports field, at beach or forest school, on the stage, on school trips, or in the boarding house.Pastoral care, pupil wellbeing and happiness are at the heart of everything they do; and the children are at the centre of all the decision-making because, quite simply, they believe happy, healthy children thrive and achieve.

Facilities

Nursery
Located in two purpose built buildings, the Lodge and the Casson Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Hub, create a friendly and secure atmosphere within the school’s spacious grounds. Rated as outstanding by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI Report 2018) we aim to give children the best possible educational start by providing a setting with no division between learning and play.Being part of a larger school means that the Nursery enjoys many of the Pre-Prep and Prep facilities, including a state of the art sports hall and dance studio, indoor heated swimming pool, gym, beautiful pavilion, resource centre, Forest School and extensive playing fields. As the school is located so close to the sea, the Nursery staff often take the children to the seafront to explore the beach and local area. The Nursery is split into the baby room for children aged 9 months to 18 months and then there are four classes: Robin for 18 months to two year olds, Nightingales for three year olds.   The pre-school classes for three to four year olds, are the Chaffinch and Kingfisher classes.

Pre Prep
St Andrew’s Pre-Prep department provides quality education for all the children in its care, through a team of dedicated professionals who nurture the educational, social and pastoral needs of each and every child, in a caring, happy and stimulating environment. The Pre-Prep team understand the importance of an effective education for young children. They believe that education in the Pre-Prep lays the firm foundations of the skills, knowledge and attitudes each child will need to ensure achievement and success throughout their academic life. The good ratios of adult to child in each class allows staff to provide the very best start for the children. Each child receives the individual attention they need to ensure they achieve their maximum potential. The Pre-Prep is a bright, colourful and creative environment, with a warm, friendly and family atmosphere, where children feel safe and happy. The children are supported and encouraged to become confident, independent learners, not afraid to take risks and to gain a good positive attitude towards learning. To be the best that they can be. By working in a happy and creative atmosphere, children learn to feel positive about themselves, developing spiritually, culturally and socially as well as academically.

Prep
Children move into the Prep School at the start of Year 3 and they challenge them daily, expecting them to work hard but play hard too so that, when they leave them, they are happy, confident, compassionate and well-educated girls and boys ready to move on to their senior school of choice. The pupils learn lessons for life; not just in the classroom but on the sports field; through the school’s creative arts programme including art, dance, DT & Innovation, drama and music and, of course from our vast array of co-curricular, after-school and Saturday morning activities. The school runs an early morning drop-off system which allows for children to be brought to the main school library from 7.30am.
