St Anthony's Preparatory School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 4 to 13 (Gender - 4 to 13 )
St. Anthony's is an academic IAPS preparatory school for boys between the ages of 4 and 13. It is Roman Catholic but welcomes boys of other faiths. The school has a family atmosphere, relaxed and unstuffy, but with a rigorous approach to learning. It is not a ‘hot house’ and great care is taken to ensure that pupils feel happy and at ease in the school environment. The majority of boys transfer to leading independent school. The academic curriculum in all year groups is designed to foster curiosity and love for learning. It’s very important for boys to develop their knowledge and understanding in all subject areas including digital literacy. Being prepared to take academic risks through dialogue and questioning leads to reflective and confident learners – characteristics much sought after by senior schools. The school supports pupils and parents through the 11+ and 13+ application process; the most important aim here is for each boy to progress to the senior school that best fits his needs. The overwhelming majority of boys secure places at leading boarding and London day schools.
Nursery
St Anthony’s Schools are delighted to announce that St Anthony’s Nursery opened it’s doors in September 2021. The nursery is a co-educational learning environment based at the Girls’ School, welcoming girls and boys aged two-and-a-half to four. The nursery follows the statutory framework set out in the Early Years curriculum (EYFS) emphasising adult and child-led activities, which seeks to develop each child’s communication and language, physical development and emotional development. Our aim is to impart sufficient knowledge, skills and confidence so that children are ready to embark on full-time education (starting with Reception).
Prep School
The curriculum at St. Anthony’s is carefully configured to enable all pupils to excel in their learning and meet their full potential. Stretch and challenge is built into the curricula across all subject areas from Reception to Year 8. One of the key principles of underpinning our curriculum design is to enable opportunities for ‘exploratory’ learning, meaning that our boys are empowered as active agents in their learning, as opposed to passive recipients.
MUSIC
Boys learn about different genres of music from European and global traditions, classical as well as modern.Singing is very popular and the school boasts a number of choirs including a mixed one with St Anthony’s Girls’. Boys accompany the celebration of Holy Mass drawing on a range of choral and polyphonic settings.
CREATIVE ARTS
Music, Art and Design, and Drama are taught as separate disciplines throughout the school. The integration of these subjects into the Creative Arts Faculty allows greater scope for pupils to explore their imaginations, creative skills and confidence in the areas of performance. The Creative Arts Faculty develops the self-esteem and self-confidence of pupils from Reception through to Year 8; pupils take with them a Creative Arts portfolio as they journey through the school, reflecting upon their musical performances, art appreciation and stage shows.
SPORT
At St Anthony’s they strive to ensure that Physical Education and Games facilitate the holistic development of each child. They have a ‘Sport for All’ ethos, whereby every boy from Years 4 to 8 participates in competitive sport against other schools. They encourage and nurture the importance of participating in physical activity as part of leading an active and healthy lifestyle. To this end we strive to forge a life-long trend for participation in sport.
CLUB AND SOCIETY
They are proud to offer an all-encompassing and wide-ranging enrichment programme at St Anthony’s. For sport, we facilitate an extensive co-curricular programme which includes football, rugby, cricket, table-tennis, basketball, swimming and dance. These clubs take place at the main school site before and after School throughout the year. Art and Drama club are also in high demand, as our students prepare for performances and exhibitions which are highlights of the calendar.
