Welcome to Saint Augustine’s Catholic High School and Sixth Form, a non-selective high school located in the heart of Worcestershire.  They are diverse in our social background, breadth of talent and character, always putting the needs of the students’ first.  The school has a distinctively Catholic ethos which provides a solid foundation for academic rigour and innovation coupled with a rich pastoral support programme.  The heart of Saint Augustine’s is the relationship between inspiring, caring teachers and talented, motivated and engaging students.  Whilst the school is best known for its academic results, they provide a strong enrichment programme focused on developing the whole child incorporating the arts, sports and community service.

Curriculum
The students experience a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum which seeks to ensure that their learning is continually built upon and knowledge is deepened.  The courses offered enhance attainment and achievement by challenging students to develop insight and independence of thought. When students join the school in Year 9, our focus is to allow them to personalise their curriculum early on to enable them to pursue their interests.  All students have an interview with a member of SLT to support them in making their option choices.  The core curriculum of Maths, English, Science and RE continues throughout Key Stage 4 to the end of Year 11.  Students also study a Humanities subject together with a language in Y9 to ensure breadth of study alongside a selection of option subjects from both GCSE/BTEC qualifications.

Sixth Form
They have an outstanding reputation and this naturally attracts large numbers of students from the surrounding area. They aim to give the best sixth form experience possible, setting high standards in terms of student conduct and effort.  We are proud that upon leaving us in Year 13, students have become full rounded individuals, who have reached their academic and personal potential with a strong sense of morality, reflection and spiritual engagement.

Features

Things to note

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
The Learning Support Department provides high quality support to students with a range of special educational needs.  The team supports teachers and the Pastoral Team to ensure all pupils overcome these difficulties thereby enabling them to achieve their potential. The SENCo deploys a range of tools to assess students’ needs and uses the data to inform enhancement classes for either small groups or individuals.  The department monitors and tracks the progress of all SEND students working closely with subject teachers and outside agencies.  Parents play a central role in supporting the work of the Department and we welcome their involvement.

Extra-Curricular Clubs
Science club, chess, ski trips, fitness, trampolining, cheer-leading ..... the list goes on!  Throughout the year, various clubs run during lunch time and after school - all students are welcome and it provides an ideal way of students mixing vertically throughout the school.  The annual ski trip always proves very popular as students travel out to Nassfeld in Austria for a week of skiing during February.  See our You Tube channel showing the adventures of the ski trip.

Drama
SAPA - St Augustine's Performing Arts has achieved outstanding success in the past, staging musicals as diverse as Little Shop of Horrors, Return to the Forbidden Planet and Into the Woods.  In addition to their annual showcase, the group also travel overseas in July each year for a week of performances in Europe.  Some shows are pre-planned whilst others are spontaneous and ad-hoc, on the pavements and squares of the towns where they attract audiences of 100+.  Indeed, when they returned from Catalonia in July 2019, they were asked to showcase their work in Redditch and so put on an evening of performances in the town which proved to be highly successful, with local shop owners staying open late as the audience they attracted was so large!

Music & Performing Arts
Pupils at St Augustine's have a wide range of opportunities for group music-making, including orchestras, chamber music and choirs.  There are also specialist groups like Percussion Ensemble which cater for individual instruments.  A large and thriving Chapel Choir and select Chamber Choir perform concert repertoire both in school and at prestigious external venues overseas from St Mark's Square in Venice to St Eupemia in Croatia and Montserrat Cathedral near Barcelona - the annual choir trip to Europe is a not-to-be-missed event.

Sport
The Physical Education curriculum is designed to develop every pupil, encouraging all students to fulfil their potential. Lessons are challenging and exciting, taught by expert staff and offer an opportunity to experience a broad range of activities. The extra-curricular sports provision is second to none, regularly fielding teams in the major games of including rugby, football, basketball and netball. We are amongst the top schools in the area in fixtures, as well as at county, national and regional tournaments.  Alongside PE, there is a comprehensive recreational programme including activities such as table tennis, badminton, trampolining and many more.
