St John's College School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 4 to 13 (Gender - 4 to 13 )
St John’s College School, winner of the national Best Prep School and Best Prep School Headmaster Awards, is a leading independent co-educational day and boarding school in Cambridge which offers an exceptional educational experience to boys and girls aged 4-13.At the heart of everything they do at St John’s, though, lies a deep care of each child as an individual. It is this care and engagement with children’s learning that leads to teaching which inspectors describe as ‘inspirational’. More than that, though, we care deeply about every child’s well-being.At St John’s we set our aspirations high, not through a culture of hot-housing, but through the underlying principle of instilling a love of learning that will stay with the children throughout the rest of their lives. They want them to become great learners who will go out into the complex and ever-changing world with confidence and the skills they need to make a positive difference. The philosopher Eric Hoffer said, “In times of change learners inherit the earth while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists”.
Curriculum
A childhood at St John’s gives the children opportunities to discover themselves, to challenge themselves and be challenged, to succeed and to fail, to gain mastery over their learning. The richest possible curriculum gives children the greatest number of pathways to excellence, the greatest opportunity to discover their value, to find their full range of talents and their particular pathway to success. You will find further information about how they carry this through departments in the school by exploring the following sections: Humanities, STEM, Languages, The Arts & Sport and Extra-Curricular Activities.
Extra-Curricular Activities
A wide range of clubs and activities is offered throughout the year to all children from Form 1 upwards.
The Arts & Sport
Deeper learning is also fostered in the arts and sports. The giving of a stunning performance, the mastery of oneself, the expression of oneself through painting or plays or dance or poetry performances, the testing of oneself through triumph or defeat on the fields are all deeply memorable experiences that remain with children forever. And the deeper strengths they gain will also remain with them and spread throughout their learning. They shine in performance. And they learn the vital skills of collaboration and communication, resourcefulness, responsibility, rigour, resilience, risk-taking. These are transferable skills and all the evidence speaks of the benefits of the arts in schools to attainment across the board
