Description

St Peter's RC Primary School, Stalybridge is an Independent Primary school for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - mix )

St. Peter’s is a Catholic Voluntary Aided school in the Diocese of Shrewsbury. They are proud of our Catholic heritage passed onto us by the past generations of Stalybridge Catholics. They believe they are a community that gives a positive witness to the Christian faith with Jesus Christ at its centre. The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum for the 230 children ranging from 3 to 11 years. They aim to develop each child’s potential by nurturing their spiritual, moral, intellectual, physical, social and emotional development. They strive for excellence in all they do; to be the best that they can be.

Facilities

Nursery
During the year the children take part in lots of school activities such as Friday assemblies, masses, Learning Links Day with Reception Class, productions and prayer shares. For some of these activities we welcome parents to join us. They will let you know all about them nearer the time.Homework- In Nursery we like to begin the routine of homework. Your child will be given a piece of homework each week. It will be sent out on a Friday to be returned on a Monday. The homework is a consolidation of what we have been learning that week in nursery. It will be a fun activity to enjoy with your child. It gives your child the opportunity to share their new learning and skills.

Year 1
In Year 1, the aim is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One. The Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in Reception. Learning through play will continue to be an important part of the school day, and the children will gradually be eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated, enthused and eager learners.

Year 2
There are a few little pieces of information that I think will be useful for you to know as they go through the school year. This information will also be available on the school website. If you would like to speak to me about any issue you are more than welcome to come to Y2’s door before the bell goes at 8.50am, or, if you prefer, at home time. If this isn’t possible please give me a call and we can arrange a mutually beneficial time. Alternatively, you can always send me a little note.

Year 3
They have had lots of fun this week for our DT Day.  The theme was ‘Food from around the world’. First, we had to guess where different fruit and vegetables come from, we then researched where these fruits originated. they decided to use these fruits to create our own ‘Rainbow Fruit Skewers’, the children had to chop the fruit carefully using the bridging method. Then, we wanted to make a pizza, however, we wanted to ensure that our pizza was healthy, as in science we have been learning about the importance of a healthy diet and the need for a variety of nutrients when cooking.

Year 5
Year 5 is an exciting year at St Peter’s. This year the children take on additional responsibilities as play leaders supporting our younger infant children at lunchtime. We enjoy a great residential at Robinwood building the relationships and pushing ourselves out of the comfort zone in amazing challenges. They take the next steps in the academic work, developing the knowledge and understanding across a wide range of subjects in exciting ways, and making links through all that we do.

Year 6
Year 6 is a very important year, but we try to make it fun as well. Being the eldest children in the school means that they have a responsibility to set an excellent example to the rest of the school. They prepare for High School by taking on responsibilities around our school and looking after our younger peers. They are given roles as prefects, dinner monitors and buddies who work with Reception to help them learn. The aim is to be the best that we can be, which they do by working hard, becoming more independent and making sure that they find enjoyment in all that they do.
