Description

St. Mary’s College is an independent, co-educational school with a Christian ethos, specifically Roman Catholic but welcoming pupils of all faiths. They provide continuous, high-quality education to boys and girls aged 0-18 in the family of schools in Crosby and Blundellsands.

Coaching is provided in several sports and the school has excellent facilities at its 20-acre playing fields, sports centre and brand new state-of the art gym.

  • St. Mary’s has a proud tradition of excellence in Drama and they put on very successful productions on a regular basis, ranging from Greek tragedies to big musical theatre productions.
  • Pupils take part in an exceptionally wide range of sporting activities, competing successfully at county, national and international levels.

  • There are three choirs, two symphonic wind bands (junior & senior), two symphony orchestras (junior & senior), a stage band and various smaller ensembles. Choirs, orchestras and bands have completed successful tours of Spain, France, The Netherlands, Australia, USA, Canada, Italy and Switzerland.
  • The CCF is a voluntary youth organisation sponsored by HM Forces. The unit at St. Mary’s has two sections (Army and RAF) and parades after school on a Monday.

Admission Details

Admission to St. Mary’s College in Year 7 is based on an informal interview, primary school report plus an entrance examination consisting of a Cognitive Abilities Test as well as English and Mathematics papers.

The date for the entrance examination for 2023 entry is Friday 18th November 2022, with interviews taking place earlier that week (w/c Monday 14th November) and Art, Music and Sport Scholarship assessments taking place the previous week (w/c Monday 7th November).

If places are available, individual admission is possible at other levels of entry, especially into Year 10, when pupils commence their GCSE examinations.

Sixth Form admission is based on a combination of interview, present school report (for external applications) and performance at GCSE. As a guide, applicants should have received a combined total of at least 36 points in their seven best GCSEs and they should have achieved at least a grade 6 in the GCSE subjects they wish to take forward as their A Level subject choices and preferably a 7-9 grade.
